HYBRIDISM - Online Information article about HYBRIDISM
Gebhardt, crossing Rana esculenta with R. arvalis, found that the cleavage of the ovum was normal, but that abnormality began with the gastrula, and that development soon stopped.
The sterility which so generally attends the crossing of two specific forms is to be distinguished as of two kinds, which, although often confounded by naturalists, are in reality quite distinct.
Thus it has been found that when the pollen of one species does not succeed in fertilizing the ovules of another species, yet the reciprocal cross may be successful; that is to say, the pollen of the second species may fertilize the ovules of the first.

 Cross Breeding Programs
Generating replacement females and keeping the breeding program going smoothly and systematically without losing heterosis is a problem that has been encountered in many crossbreeding programs.
It is defined as the percent of superiority expressed in a trait by crossbred progeny over the average of the parent breeds in the cross.
As an example, assume that the two parent breeds in a cross had weaning weight averages of 575 and 475 lb.

 Cross Breeding
Crosses happen and I have no problem with anyone having one but thinking back, I was the one who started the last argument on this issue by calling them mongrels and saying that I could see no justification for breeding designer dogs.
I believe that crossing different breeds should only be done by those with some genetic knowledge, they should be aware of all the hereditary problems in the breeds to be crossed, they should take care in making sure that the dogs they are crossing are extremely healthy physically as well as having excellent temperments.
I also know about the reluctance of pedigree people to let their dogs to be used in crosses, and the reaction to those who do, but more on that subject would have to go in a private e-mail.

Indigenous knowledge of yak breeding and cross-breeding among nomads in western Sichuan, China - Ning Wu The value of indigenous knowledge of yak breeding and cross-breeding have been largely ignored in the assessment of the potential for pastoral development on the Tibetan Plateau.
Owing to the difference in life-style, the various groups of pastoralists have different aims in breeding or cross-breeding.
Traditional yak breeding patterns may be seen as the result of adaptive responses of organisms and societies to current pressures and specific historical processes (Wu 1997b: 77).

Cross breeding systems for beef cattle
Rotational crossbreeding, sometimes referred to as sequence breeding, is when males of two or more breeds are mated to crossbred females.
First cross females are joined with bulls of a third unrelated breed, instead of with one of the parent breeds as in the backcross.
This breeding system takes full advantage of heterosis for maternal traits such as fertility of the cow, and milking / mothering ability (as the mother expresses 100% of possible heterosis) and half of the possible heterosis for growth.

In fact the beliefs, rituals and liturgy of the mystery cults, which antedated Christianity [a], so closely paralleled the Christian ones that the early Church Fathers insisted that the devil must have had a hand in these cults!

In the same way, crossing animals from different genera will not produce offspring, and certainly crossbreeding an animal and a plant is impossible.
Hybrids can be formed by cross breeding two different breeds, races, variants, or species.

The pilot studies on cross breeding should be able to study the combined ability of the 3 productive traits in the environmental background of the developing countries where the crossbreds are meant to perform.
Cross breeding is one of the oldest methods for increasing the productivity, if adopted sensibly.
The hypothesis that the genome (50 chromosomes) of river buffaloes is accommodated in the 48 chromosomes of the Swamp requires experimental verification, but fortunately, the River buffalo (2n=50) and the Swamp buffalo (2n=48) crosses are fertile despite the 49 chromosomes in F1 and F2 offspring.

One useful attribute of Braunvieh is the tendency of Braunvieh sired cross bred progeny to exhibit the coat colour of the dam.
Apart from the first cross terminal bonus growth, the main benefit of Braunvieh is in the First Cross Dam with the extra milk potential, sound bone, muscle and colour compatible application.
When crossed over Murray Grey, calves appear from silver to mid brown.

Cross breeding could boost chickpea crops
The team has crossed an incompatible wild species C. bijugum with cultivated chickpea and hybrids have been produced by the use of embryo rescue and in vitro regeneration techniques.
The ICRISAT research group developed embryo rescue and tissue culture techniques for chickpea and were able to obtain healthy hybrids by crossing C. arietinum with C. bijugum.
One of the best proven means to broaden the genetic base of the crop, and also to introduce newer sources of resistance to various biotic and abiotic constraints, is to create interspecific hybrids of the plant by utilizing the wild species of chickpea.

 Tarentaise
Tarentaise are unrelated to domestic cattle, allowing the most to be made of hybrid vigor and calf heterosis in a cross-breeding program.
Tarentaise were imported primarily to cross with local breeds and develop highly productive commercial herds of medium size cows.
Tarentaise offers genetic diversity which means increased calf survival, higher weaning weights, more milk production, greater cow efficiency and increased longevity.

These were definitely cross breeds and not just breeding the color variants that crop up now and then naturally in a batch of fish.
I may not be for cross-breeding but have been enlightened to some situations where it has enabled the hobby to get more colorful fish.

 Agriculture [encyclopedia]
Hybrid seeds: a hybrid seed is developed by mating, or cross-breeding, 2 or more species of plants.
Hybrids are a cross of 2 or more crop varieties selected for their positive growing characteristics (such as short growing season, or resistance to heat, cold, or disease).
The hope is that the resulting hybrid will have the most positive characteristics of all the crossed varieties.

Exhibiting, Breeding & Hybridizing Agapornis roseicollis
The Interactive Peachfaced Lovebird Breeding page is a personal, non-profit page and is provided to increase my own knowledge, hopefully the knowledge of the lovebird community at large, and all of those who contribute.
It will also attempt to shed light on artificial selection and breeding with the intent of describing the many methodologies and principles surrounding a program aimed at developing a line, strain or variety of birds.
The site examines potentially contentious colony breeding methods, and breeding comparisons, as well as success with other bird and parrot species, and their similarity to Agapornis roseicollis (lovebirds).
