Cross training - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cross training in sports and fitness refers to the combining of exercises to work various parts of the body.
Cross training aims to eliminate this — jogging, for example, is excellent for endurance, weight loss, flexibility and prolonged use of large muscle groups (such as those in the legs).
This training is meant to overcome the shortcomings of one style by practicing another style which is strong in appropriate area.

Weight lifting or strength training is extremely important for people to do regardless of what sport they focus on and for that matter it is important for health and fitness even if you don't participate in a sport.
Since the training you are doing in place of miles 101 to 150 is not running, you will most likely find that using different muscles and mechanics will allow you to also work more intensely on that aspect of your training as well.

When you are putting together the muscular training part of your exercise program, remember that the primary mission of the activities is to challenge your muscles and connective tissues - tendons and ligaments - beyond their normal boundaries.
You should research as many different training protocols as possible, and even enlist the aid of a personal trainer if you need help setting up a program for yourself, or to change the program that you are already on.
