CrossGen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Before CrossGen folded in 2004 it managed to become one of the strongest independent (that is, not DC Comics or Marvel Comics) contenders in the comics industry.
As opposed to the usual comics practise of hiring all artists and writers on a freelance basis, CrossGen had their employees work in their headquarters in Tampa, Florida.
Crossgen's technology was used to scan the comic book art, the result was aesthetically pleasing, reproducing the fine color of the original, but the lettering was not quite legible; this was solved by adding client side browser code so that hovering over the word or thought bubble caused it to enlarge to a readable size.

 The Comics Journal: Newswatch
Despite CrossGen's public assurances that the company was merely going through a temporary rough patch, Serdar's letter clearly sends the message that Alessi is desperate enough to sell not only a portion of CrossGen but a controlling interest in the company, asking only that he be allowed a continuing involvement.
CrossGen is the comics company that was born out of conversations about artists, characters and stories that took place between the teenage Mark Alessi and his cousin Gina Villa.
She was placed in charge of CrossGen comics operations and production, after having worked for the previous 29 years as a physical education and health instructor at Holliston High School in Massachusetts.

Everything CrossGen does is solid, detailed work with flawless colors, and the art doesn't come at the expense of story, which I always appreciate when plunking down $3 a comic these days.

It was during a visit to the offices of CrossGen Comics that I was exposed to a series of innovations in the delivery of graphic stories to consumers that so shocked my senses that I have been unable to write about them until now.
Despite the fact that he was well aware that the comics business was declining rapidly, Mark decided to take a significant portion of the personal fortune that he derived from his previous career in the world of high tech and dedicate it to building an all-new comics company.
Right from the beginning, his goal was to transform static printed comics into electronic form, and then to utilize the magic of electronics to enhance his static stories into versions which would appeal not only to existing comics fans, but also to the millions of potential comics readers who exist around the world.

In addition to CrossGen's many comics that are currently in active development for films, we intend to introduce through the Cinescape Magazine pages the next franchisable original comics from up and coming artists, as well as stories from legendary genre creators, of whom some are already part of Mania's advisory board.
Cinescape recognizes that comics, like films, are simply another medium for the presentation of genre-based stories, and that concept is at the fulcrum of this arrangement.
The comics that appear will be stitched into the center of each monthly edition of Cinescape starting with the May 2003 edition, and they will appear in the Traveler trim size, and not in the traditional larger comic format.
