Game Studies 0501: The Hunt for Collaborative War Gaming - CASE: Battlefield 1942 by Tony Manninen and Tomi Kujanpää   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
The game represents a genre of multiplayer games in which the need for inter-player co-operation is evident.
The fast pace of the game may render the effectiveness of facial expressions useless, as there may not be enough time for the players to perceive these relatively small-scale cues in any case.
However, all the actions of the players are not represented by the game system, and a number of interaction forms that could be modelled and implemented to increase the collaborative potential of the game exist.

 Wikinfo | Crossfire
Crossfires were first used in World War I, shortly after the invention of the machine gun.
The significance of crossfires is that they rendered useless what had been the most effective weapon of warfare since the Greek phalanx: massed infantry.
Three things changed between WWI and WWII that rendered the crossfire obsolete: the advance of armored vehicles (especially tanks), the advent of aerial bombardment, and the invention of the proximity fuse.

 Roguelike
A roguelike is a computer game that borrows some of the elements of another computer game, 1980's Rogue.
A roguelike is a superficially two-dimensional dungeon crawling computer game, usually with simple text or ASCII "graphics" and many with "tiles" which replace the rather limited character set with a wider array.
Roguelike games feature randomly generated dungeon levels, which give them more replay value than games in which the levels are the same every time, though many have static levels as well.

Crossfire is based in a medieval fantasy world and is similar to other games of this genre.
Each game presents a different landscape - the random number generator provides an essentially unlimited number of variations of the dungeon and its denizens to be discovered by the player in one of a number of characters: you can pick your race, your role, and your gender.
Sword of Fargoal is a simple rogue-like game where you are on a quest to retrieve the Sword of Fargoal, which lies between levels 15 and 20 of a dungeon.

AGH Atari 8-Bit Computer Review -- Crossfire   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Crossfire is a combination shoot-em-up/maze game that offers the best of both worlds: quick reaction time, maze-tyupe environment, gaming strategy, shoot-and-duck, street matrix layout and bonus creatures ready to be gobbled.
Visually, Crossfire isn't all that great, but the gameplay is so good that it more than makes up for this deficiency.
The game can get frustrating at times, but that's how the men will be seperated from the boys.

 My Top PC Games!
That's because I think computer games reached a pinnacle in the mid/late '90s and then programmers tried to do too much with them, adding even greater levels of realism (i.e., micro-managing) that made them too lengthy and ultimately unplayable.
In fact, I bought the game on sale a good three to four months before I bought my computer, because I was hooked to the SNES version of Civ I and was drooling over the prospect of a superior sequel.
But both games are essentially the same and provide the happy medium of simplicity and complexity that we all desire.

Game companies say they are essentially powerless to regulate mods because they're usually written by people in their homes and posted on Web sites.
