Indeed the things that lead up to the crossing of the Red Sea by Israel make it seem like more of a political deliverance than a divine deliverance.

This wadi is located midway of the beach, and once the army entered the area, the multitude's only means of escape would have been to the south.

In the case of Old Testament Israel, the one-time event was the crossing of the Red Sea from captivity to freedom as a nation.
This further evidences the assertion that the crossing of the Red Sea has a typological significance.
If the proper significance of the crossing of the Red Sea is typological, then we should look for an event in the New Testament that corresponds to as many of the significant factors of the crossing of the Red Sea as possible.

I can also show you that the Old Testament saints were baptized as per 1Corinthians 10:2 - "And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea." Therefore, we can see that baptism is not a New Testament creation either.
It is not necessary that they are equating the doctrine of the NT church and baptism with the OT nation of Israel or the crossing of the Red Sea.
The church in the wilderness was a type of the NT church as the crossing of the Red Sea was a type of baptism.
