Topic: Crossover (DS9 episode)

In the News (Mon 6 Jul 09)

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Encyclopedia, History, Geography and Biography
DS9 began while Star Trek: The Next Generation was still on the air, and there were several crossover episodes between the two series.
Dukat in particular was the focus of several episodes, such as the sixth-season episode “Waltz,” in which he has gone insane and begins to hallucinate, and “Covenant”, in which he becomes a twisted messianic figurehead for a group of Pah Wraith-worshipping Bajorans.
Episodes of DS9 were made available on VHS cassettes, which generally contained one episode each (two-part episodes were combined on a single cassette).

Crossover - Memory Alpha - A Wikia wiki
This episode continues the story of the mirror universe first seen in the TOS episode "Mirror, Mirror and later in the Star Trek: Enterprise episodes "In a Mirror, Darkly" and "In a Mirror, Darkly, Part II".
In later mirror universe episodes, the Terran Rebellion overthrew the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance and captured Terok Nor, which is what Sisko alludes to when he says he and his men will "stir things up on this side." The Terrans would later build a copy of the Defiant using plans stolen from this universe.
In later episodes, the Intendant was revealed to be bisexual and to have had an affair with Ezri Tigan.

Ex Astris Scientia - VOY Season 7
The episode has some cute ideas and for fans it is a nice résumé of seven years of Voyager, but it fails to convince because of its lack of thrill and its bad plot logic, as if the producers had learned nothing from "Fury".
The episode is definitely something that wouldn't have been possible in the first few seasons, and it shows there has been a lot of character development, unlike what is frequently criticized about the show.
Only two episodes ago she was about to remove everything Klingon in her unborn child and now, what an irony, a whole ship of Klingon pilgrim fathers is eager to worship the Kuvah'Magh and her mother, so her child couldn't look Klingon enough.

Crossover (DS9 episode) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
After experiencing operational difficulties while traveling through the wormhole, Kira and Bashir find themselves in the Mirror Universe where the space station is populated by exact doubles of Garak and Odo, and is run by Kira's counterpart, Kira II.
Later, Kira II tells Kira about the last crossover, which occurred with Captain Kirk a century ago (in the episode Mirror, Mirror).
That incident led to the formation of a powerful alliance between the Klingon and Cardassian empires in which Bajor is also a major player.

DS9 as a TV show contained multitudes, with a magnificent supporting cast and a rich history, and the novels will almost definitely reflect that.

This is illustrated by Jake in later episodes (and would also have been true of Molly), who does not exist in the mirror universe as Ben and Sarah never married and had children.
In the story, Alice passes through a mirror and into a world that is in many ways the opposite of her own, much as Kira and Bashir do when their damaged runabout passes through the wormhole.

DS9 was well received by critics, with TV Guide describing it as "the best acted, written, produced, and altogether finest" Star Trek series.
On DS9 however, not only are events in one episode often referenced and built upon in later ones, but sometimes several episodes in a row are cliffhangers.
Dukat was the focus of several episodes, such as the sixth-season episode "Waltz", in which he has gone insane and begins to hallucinate, and "Covenant", in which he becomes a twisted messianic figurehead for a group of Pah Wraith-worshipping Bajorans.

Later, Kira used the Orb of Time to travel back in time (in the episode "Wrongs Darker than Death or Night"), and discovered that her mother was taken as a comfort woman by the Cardassians.
After Cardassia withdrew from Bajor, at age 26, Kira became an influential figure in its reconstruction and the politics of the region, due to her assignment (and holding the rank of major) to Deep Space Nine, and her closeness to Captain Benjamin Sisko, whom the Bajorans believed to be an emissary from the Bajoran Prophets.

I am assuming that 1000 Star Date units equal one year, that one season in all series except for the orginal one takes over the span of one year, the stardate callendar was re-set a couple times, and if a date is not mentioned in the episode, it takes place after the previous episode.
I am sorting the episodes by the date given in the episode This explains why some episodes may not be listed in the order they where aired in.

I think that DS9 was the strongest of the four shows, but I like all of them save Voyager, which is a teeming mass of unfulfilled potential.
I'm curious about the decision to market it as a TNG rather than a DS9 novel, since it seems that arguably it could be either, and it's helpful to be familiar with Martok and the events toward the end of DS9 while reading it.
The Gateways crossover will pick up on the Iconian Gateways introduced in TNG's "Contagion," and also seen in DS9's "To the Death." The first two books will be TOS and Challenger -- the latter picking up from the last book in the New Earth series from summer 2000.

Like "The Trouble with Tribbles" from 29 years earlier, this fifth-season episode is an instant classic, beginning when a surgically altered Klingon (Charlie Brill, reprising his role from "Tribbles") uses a Bajoran Orb of Time to travel back over 100 years to prevent his past-tense capture by Capt. James T. Kirk.
