Released in 1988, when only superstars were granted the box set, Crossroads became the blueprint for what such a retrospective should be.

Rather than a larger scale, well dressed greatest hits package, as some box sets essentially are, we hoped to unify a number of previously unreleased tracks with some great studio recordings and live performances which had fallen out of print and were no longer readily available to Jimi's fans.
The vinyl box maintains the same design as the CD set, but the 40-page booklet is now 12" x 12," which allows the images to be larger throughout.
With the box set, we not only were able to complete that task, making available songs such as the studio version of "Star Spangled Banner" which had never been issued on CD, but we also got to showcase a host of great tracks which had not yet been issued.

While the first release entitled Crossroads is a career retrospective, this album is primarily a showcase of his live performances tour by tour between 1974 and 1978.
Throughout this box set most of his classics from 461 Ocean Blvd. and Slowhand are included and rarely disappoint.
Clapton's core back-up band is similar throughout the box set, with some differences from tour to tour that are noted within the track list.

 Eric Clapton: Crossroads
A four-disc box set spanning Eric Clapton's entire career -- running from the Yardbirds to his '80s solo recordings -- Crossroads not only revitalized Clapton's commerical standing, but it established the rock & roll multi-disc box set retrospective as a commercially viable proposition.
Crossroads manages to sum up Clapton's career succinctly and thoroughly, touching upon all of his hits and adding a bevy of first-rate unreleased material (most notably selections from the scrapped second Derek & the Dominos album).
Although not all of his greatest performances are included on the set -- none of this work as a session musician or guest artist is included, for instance -- every truly essential item he recorded is present on these four discs.

Each version will have the title of the box at the time it was archived, as well as the date the box was archived.
If you are restoring an earlier version of a content box that is still on your poster, the content you are restoring will replace the current content (however, the current content is also archived, and can be restored if you change your mind).

However, as evidenced from the tracks on this four-disc set, Clapton's live performances had something to please just about everyone, including stunning guitar solos, raging renditions of classic blues selections, and some of the best tunes that he has ever composed.

CROSSROADS is a 25th Anniversary retrospective of Eric Clapton's career, spanning 1963-1987.

These three virtuosos set the bar for the classic power trio line-up and in the process redefined rock music and introduced unprecedented levels of improvisational freedom within songs such as "Crossroads."
