Crowd Dynamics Ltd - Advantages and disadvantages of computer simulation
Building a crowd simulation is a complex exercise in applied modelling and it is important that the modeller understands the differences between a simulation, an animation and a model.
Show, by simulation, that the model is capable of generating the observed behaviour (as an emergent phenomenon).
The simulation process must be conducted for many periods in order to establish the long-run averages for the decision alternatives or other changes in the system.

Conclusions for the Multi-agent Simulation of Crowd Behaviour
Especially when the simulation model and the empirical data are matching on some critical macro-level variables (e.g., number of agents, number of parties and symmetrical distribution), it may become possible to test various rules at the micro level by comparing the resulting macro level dynamics against empirical data.

Crowd Control Simulation in Java Based Environment
Crowd control can be applied to many different areas, such as police operations [10], shopping center design, public park re-organization [5], rail station re-engineering [3] and epidemic diffusion.
Particle dynamics: In this approach, each entity in the crowd is represented as a single particle interacting with the other particles by some predetermined attraction/reaction and collisions [6] rules.
Unfortunately, analyzing crowd behavior using particle dynamics in a complex environment such as a large stadium (where the combination of the size of the crowd and the interactions of individuals entities in the crowd are computationally expensive) is still difficult.

Crowd simulation is an emergent problem nowadays, because of a growing interest on behalf of industries and certain organisations.
We propose, in our model, to simulate crowd motion by association of a multitude of individual behaviours, and to analyze results in order to extrapolate a levels of services classification.
That is made possible thanks to a tool for crowd simulation allowing data extrapolation which will then be synthesized in levels of services.

Crowds of non-combatants play a large and increasingly recognized role in modern military operations, and often create substantial difficulties for the combatant forces involved.
To address this problem we are developing a crowd simulation capable of generating crowds of non-combatant civilians that exhibit a variety of realistic individual and group behaviors at differing levels of fidelity.
The crowd simulation is interoperable with existing military simulations using a standard distributed simulation architecture.

Crowd simulation for virtual environments offers many challenges centered on the trade-offs between rich behavior, control and computational cost.
In this paper we present a new approach to controlling the behavior of agents in a crowd.
Our method is scalable in the sense that increasingly complex crowd behaviors can be created without a corresponding increase in the complexity of the agents.

DESCRIPTION FOR THE EGRESS SIMULATION PROTOTYPE   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-29)
We design and implement this prototype following the multi-agent simulation paradigm - each human is modeled as an independent agent equipped with sensors, mind (i.e., decision-making rules), and actuators (i.e., the faculties of being able to walk, run, stop, side-shift and turn).
Finally, based on their own assumptions about a crowd, users are able to simulate the movement of a crowd under the influence of a certain type or a combination of different types of behaviors, such as random, competitive, queuing or herding behaviors.
The Crowd Dialog appears next to the Visualizer when the system starts, and it provides a set of functions that allow users to interact with the simulation in real time.
