Crowded House - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Crowded House was an Australasian pop-rock group active between 1986 and 1996.
Crowded House is currently soliciting fans for photos from this show, to use as material for a DVD/CD release of the concert, expected to come out in honor of the show's 10th anniversary in 2006.
Crowded House provided one song ("Recurring Dream") for the soundtrack of the film Rikky and Pete, other tracks for which were provided by various combinations of Split Enz alumni.

 Crowded House Album Reviews
Crowded House (Capitol ‘86) Rating: B+ After dissolving Split Enz, a successful New Zealand new wave band formed with his older brother Tim, Neil Finn returned with this trio (so named due to their cramped living quarters) and an enjoyable debut album.
Of course, as with all Crowded House albums it is Finn who dominates, and though this album isn't his finest moment from a songwriting standpoint, it doesn’t deserve its status as the forgotten Crowded House album.
Perhaps the album is also a few songs longer than it needs to be (the "hidden track" is terrible), but pop music doesn’t get much better than the gorgeous “Fall At Your Feet,” the delightfully breezy and romantic “Weather For You,” and the devastatingly moving “She Goes On,” a love letter to a dearly departed.

Crowded House formed in 1985 when Neil Finn dissolved Split Enz rather than carry on after his brother Tim, the group's founding member, left to pursue a solo career.
Crowded House's third album, Woodface, released in the summer of 1991, proved the decision to combine the material from the two scrapped records was sound -- the album certainly represents their finest recorded moments.
In early 1993, Crowded House regrouped to record their fourth album, adding American guitarist Mark Hart (who had briefly toured with the band around the time of Temple of Low Men) to the band and dropping Mitchell Froom as their producer, opting instead for ex-Killing Joke member Youth.

In 1987, Satriani's second album Surfing With the Alien produced popular radio hits, and was the first all-instrumental release to chart so highly in many years.
Interestingly, he was credited for singing background vocals on the 1986 debut album by Crowded House.
The song "Satch Boogie" from the album Surfing With the Alien is one of possibly several hundred such songs numbered, but with no names ("Satch Boogie 1," "Satch Boogie 143," etc.).

The album proved that Crowded House was indeed based solidly on the songwriting talents of Neil Finn, and fans of his former band lapped up his solo work.
Crowded House's lyrics are often relatively opaque, taking a leaf from the 'I am the Walrus' book in creating poetry that sounds gorgeous, and whose meaning is, well, often left up to the listener to interpret.

Anyway, through it all Crowded House curiously remained pretty much oblivious to passing trends and still managed to gain enough popularity to draw 250,000 souls to their final concert at the Sydney Opera House.
There's an indication of the path the trio travelled in their time, and musically the same quotes can be dragged out: infectious melody, solid song structure, heartfelt lyrics throughout, everything getting darker as the years passed.
In any case, only the hardest souls could walk away from this album without the hint of a smile of their face - not to mention tunes impossible to dislodge from your memory for days on end.

Nearly ten years after their first album as a duo, the Finn Brothers returned with Everyone Is Here in the late summer of 2004.
Each brother released two studio albums and one live album (Tim's was a collaborative live effort, but it could be argued that Neil's star-studded 7 Worlds Collide was collaborative too) and, more importantly, their mother Mary passed away, and all of this feeds into the spirit, vibe, and sensibility of Everyone Is Here.
Tim and Neil mine their relationship throughout the album -- the word "brother" seems to appear here more often than the entirety of their past work -- and they've come up with a moving set of songs that may not add up to a concept album yet are surely unified by a set of themes.

It’s ironic that Crowded House first came about because Neil Finn wanted to get out from beneath the shadow of his brother, Tim…and, yet, the Crowded House album which is often cited as the best of their oeuvre is the one where Tim briefly joined the band.

In the UK, however, “Weather with You” made it to #7, and it turned Crowded House into a chart force to be reckoned with over the pond, resulting in 9 more hits in the top 30 before the band’s demise in 1996.

This formula would later become quite popular with artists from Matthew Sweet to the legions of basement auteurs in the pop underground, but this sensibility was relatively unheard of in the mid-'80s -- hence the birth of Crowded House.
At the time, Froom's clean production seemed refreshing, almost rootsy, compared to the synth pop dominating the mainstream and college scenes at the time, but in retrospect it seems a little overreaching and fussy, particularly in its addition of echo and layers of keyboards during particularly inappropriate moments.
Both revealed different sides of Finn's talents, with the first being lyrical and the second being effervescent, but perhaps the truest testaments to his talents are "Mean to Me," "World Where You Live," and "Now We're Getting Somewhere," songs where the lyrics meld with the melody in a way that is distinctive, affecting, and personal.
