Crowdy Bay is also home to threatened species, such as the rare glossy black cockatoo, often seen on one of the park's walks, and the brushtail phascogale.

Bundjalung National Park is located on the coastal floodplain south of Evans Head and north of Iluka between the Clarence and Evans Rivers.
Bundjalung National Park consists of a dunal wetland system, with a mosaic of wet heath, sedgeland, dry heath, forested swamp and sclerophyll forest south of Evans Head (Griffith 1983).

Trees and scrub around Crowdy Bay are alive with native birds - you'll see honeyeaters everywhere and birds of prey such as kites, eagles and falcons circling for live food.
The park runs down the coast starting just south of Laurieton, a small town on the banks of Camden Haven River, and stretches south taking in Diamond Head, Crowdy Head and finishes just before the village of Harrington.
In the 1940s, this area of the park was the stomping ground of local character Ernie Metcalf whose story is told by author Kylie Tennant in The Man on the Headland.

The park is ideal for bushwalking, birdwatching, fishing (from the rock platforms you can catch groper, bream, tailor and drummer) and swimming.
Over 100 species of bird have been recorded in the park and there are small areas of rainforest and pockets of flannel flowers and everlasting daisies.
There are a number of walking tracks (the NPWS provides a brochure with a good map) from Bergalia (at the end of Camden Haven Road) and Hamey (at the end of the Charles Harney Lookout Road) carparks.

The estuary consists of two saline lakes: Watson Taylors Lake to the south, fed by the Camden Haven River and located in Crowdy Bay National Park; and Queens Lake to the north, fed by Herons Creek and surrounded by Queens Lake State Forest.

On Sunday 27 June, the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be throwing a party for volunteers who have been removing bitou bush from Crowdy Bay National Park for 25 years.
NPWS Regional Manager, Greg Croft, said that volunteers from the National Parks Association (NPA) - Mid North Coast Branch, began removing bitou bush from the coastal foreshores at Diamond Head in 1980, just seven years after Crowdy Bay National Park was established.
National Parks Association (NPA) Executive Officer, Andrew Cox said the success of the project is due to a core group of volunteers, some of whom have been bitou bush bashing since 1980.
