With the coming of the railway Crowle became the centre of traffic for the Isle of Axholme, its population which was 1889 inhabitants in 1831 increasing to 3122 in 1871.
In the Domesday book Crowle was the most populous and valuable manor in the Isle of Axholme, it consisted of a manor house and 34 cottages.
The church at the centre of Crowle consists of a chancel, clerestoried nave of four bays, a north aisle, south porch and a western tower with a clock and three bells.

 Crowle Moor
Crowle Moor lies in the north-west corner of the Isle of Axholme and is reached from an unclassified road running north-west from Crowle village.
The still extensive tract of Hatfield, Thorne, Goole and Crowle Moors is but a remnant of the vast complex of moor, bog and fen that once surrounded the head of the Humber estuary and included much of Lincolnshire's Isle of Axholme.
It is likely that the peat on Crowle Moor was not as thick as that on the Yorkshire moors (though it still averages about 3 m) and certainly less seems to have been extracted.

The earlier history of the lectern is unknown, but the VCH records a local tradition that it came from Pershore Abbey at the Dissolution; Noake, however, makes no mention of this.
The deeply weathered state of the Norton lectern can be explained by its burial, when it would have been attacked by soil acids, but the Crowle lectern may have always stood above ground; it was recorded as standing in the churchyard before it was brought indoors in 1841.
While the figure is of Romanesque and Italianate character, the foliage is English and of c.1200, but they are both carved from a single block.

This page is a tribute to all the Crowle firefighters that have given up time to serve the public, the page will not show every serving member at Crowle Fire Station but will at least go part the way.
The AFS (Auxiliary Fire Service) was established during the second world war, Crowle had its AFS Fire station then located in Chancery lane.
On April 29th 1964 the present Fire Station located in Fieldside was officially opened and under the control of the Lindsey County Council Fire Brigade at the time Crowle was in the county of Lincolnshire, in the 1970's the local authority boundaries where changed and Humberside was formed thus establishing today's Humberside Fire Brigade.
