Antrim was exposed to the inroads of the Danes, and also of the northern Scots, who ultimately effected permanent settlements.
ANTRIM, a market-town in the west of the county Antrim, Ireland, in the south parliamentary division, on the banks of the Six-Mile Water, half a mile from Lough Neagh, in a beautiful and fertile valley.
A battle was fought near Antrim between the English and Irish in the reign of Edward III.; and in 1642 a naval engagement took place on Lough Neagh, for Viscount Massereene and Ferrard (who founded Antrim Castle in 1662) had a right to maintain a fighting fleet on the lough.

CRUMLIN, a post-town in the parish of CAMLIN, barony of UPPER MASSARENE, county of ANTRIM and province of ULSTER, 5½ miles (S.) from Antrim, and 79 (N.) from Dublin; containing 128 houses and 641 inhabitants.
This town is situated on the river Camlin, of which its name is a corruption, and on the road from Lurgan to Antrim ; it consists of one long wide street, from which branches one of smaller dimensions leading to the Antrim road, and has a neat and all cheerful appearance.
Robert Macaulay and Son; the machinery, which is of very superior construction, is impelled by the water of the Camlin river, and the quantity of grain annually consumed is on average 3000 tons of wheat and the same quantity of oats.

It is possible to board the train at Lisburn and travel back to Antrim but anyone doing so will either have to make their own way back or buy another ticket for the return trip.
THE Antrim line, which is 18.5 miles long and branches off the main Dublin tracks at Knockmore, has a unique feature.
It crosses a short steel viaduct on the Antrim side of Crumlin which is actually a triple level bridge in that it carries the track across a road which in turn carries traffic across a river.
