Fredric Wertham - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Comics were extremely popular among all youth at the time, so it was not surprising that young criminals also consumed them in large quantities, but Wertham increasingly saw a sinister connection.
Comics, especially the crime/horror titles pioneered by EC, were not lacking in gruesome images; Wertham reproduced these extensively, pointing out what he saw as recurring morbid themes such as "injury to the eye".
Wertham always denied that he favored censorship or had anything against comic books in principle, and in the 1970s he focused his interest on the benign aspects of the comic fandom subculture; in his last book, The World of Fanzines (1974), he concluded that fanzines were "a constructive and healthy exercise of creative drives".

Jack Chick - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The first 17 comics are known as the Crusader Comics and star a white man named Timothy Emerson Clark and an African-American man named James Carter.
In each of the six comics, Dr. Alberto Rivera's character claims that the Vatican is behind many evil acts throughout history such as World War I and World War II.
Several earlier comics were re-edited in the 1970s to reflect Chick's changing views on the Vatican.

The Crusader (Marvel UK, orphaned seeker of vengeance)
History: As a young boy the Crusader witnessed the brutal murder of both his parents, shot down in the street by a thug as he watched helplessly.
In case anyone reading the above hasn't realised, the Crusader was a spoof of all the self-taught Dark Avenger of the Night types that abound in comics.
The Crusader's true name isn't explicitly stated in the story itself, but the final text panel asks the question "Were those who said 'You can't become a superhero with a name like Perseus Ablemarle' right?", which strongly implies that this is his real identity.

He, with editor Julius Schwartz, saved the Caped Crusader's comics from impending cancellation with the "New Look." Infantino also redesigned the Batmobile and with Schwartz, created Batgirl, all of which had a significant impact on the Batman TV-show and movie of mid-to-late '60s.
This ultimate insider's story is Infantino's own history of comics, through his experiences, from the industry's primordial, Golden Age, through his artistic achievements, corporate years at DC Comics, and post-corporate years including his animation work, teaching, return as a top artist to DC, and Batman newspaper strip.
Infantino helped to resurrect the dying comics industry in 1956, as the artist who launched the Silver Age with his co-creation The Flash, and he remains the best remembered Flash artist of all-time.

Alter Ego Vol. 2 No. 3 - Batmania article by Bill Schelly - Comic Book Artist #3 - TwoMorrows Publishing
Comics fans had existed on the fringes of science-fiction fan groups as early as the 1930s, but it wasn't until Dick and Pat Lupoff's Xero in Sept. 1960 that a continuing series of articles about comics graced an SF "fanzine" (a term coined by SF fandom for amateur fan magazines).
Having grown up reading comics in the '40s, he naturally reserved his greatest admiration for the days when Bob Kane had worked on the strip, and when Batman had been truly a creature of the night.
His magazine had focused the energy of fans of the Caped Crusader at a time when he was at an all-time low, and rallied support for Julius Schwartz' successful effort to resuscitate the strip.
