The invention relates to a cryostat, in particular a helium cryostat with an additional nitrogen tank and a vacuum section, comprising a pressure-relief cover arranged at the outside of the tank wall of the cryostat for closing an opening therein.
The cryostat pressure-relief cover according to claim 3, wherein the rocking lever is mounted both for rotation inside the groove and for radial displacement along the groove relative to the cover means axis.
Cryostats of this type are employed, for example, for housing the superconductive magnet coil of an NMR spectrometer.

 Cryostat - Patent 4878351
A Cryostat according to claim 1, wherein the bolt passing through the said lug is formed by the cylindrical portion (63) of a screw (61) which follows the head (62) of the said screw (61) and whose end forms at the same time a stop limiting the depth of penetration of the said screw.
A Cryostat according to claim 8, wherein the plate with the said extension (53) is formed by a portion of the components (51) to be interconnected.
In the case of cryostats whose components consist of concentrically arranged tanks and shields with cylindrical jacket surfaces and plane end faces, with their axes extending in the horizontal direction, the tension members may, for example, be arranged without any problems between the plane end faces of the vessels and/or the shields.

 Cryonics Institute -- Cryostat Report
A vacuum pump needed to be run on the cryostat or else it would lose the vacuum required to slow liquid nitrogen boil-off, but the pump was not so strong as to produce a Hard Vacuum in the sub-micron range, as is done with Alcor's dewars.
One cylindrical cryostat is less efficient because the inner wall is supported to the outer wall with bracing and thicker contracts (which conduct more heat) -- in contrast to the other cryostats for which the inner wall is only connected to the outer wall by a circle at the top.
The outer walls of the rectangular cryostats are made of a composite of fiberglass & polyester resin, whereas the inner walls are made of fiberglass & epoxy resin composite.

In the figure, the cryostat is fitted with a pivot support over the window cell and two trunnions are then fitted such as to allow rotation of the cryostat around an axis normal to the cryostat window.
Once the cryostat is lifted clear of the trolley, a jack or third crane is used to rotate the cryostat.
The cryostat can be rotated through a full 360° about the long axis but will need to be put down in the V-blocks after 180° of rotation to swap the nylon slings over the helium lines and cables to the enclosures.

ORTEC How to Choose the Right Photon Detector - Shielding/Cryostat
The low-background cryostat is substantially better than the standard one for energies below ~500 keV, somewhat better between 500 and 1500 keV, and little better above that.
Between 500 and 1500 keV, the low-background cryostat may help to lower the MDA, but the same amount of investment in a higher-efficiency detector will produce about the same MDA improvement.
They are (a) the J configuration, which makes it possible to shield the dewar, much of the cryostat, and the cryosorption material from the detector element, and (b) the HJ configuration, which, in addition, allows the preamplifier to be shielded from the detector element.

The cryostat sits behind the solar panel, isolated from it by several layers of insulation, and contains two tanks that will be filled with liquid helium.
The cryostat was cooled down and the tanks were filled with liquid helium just as they will be five days before launch.

 NASA Tech Briefs - MFS31697
Originally, the cryostat was to be used in measuring apparent strains in wide aluminum/ lithium panels as functions of temperature in order to develop data for temperature compensation of the readings of strain gauges on a tank containing liquid hydrogen.
Relative to the cryostat used previously for this purpose, the improved cryostat can be prepared for a test in less time, and it loses less helium during each test.
The cryostat and adjacent panel areas protruding from the cryostat were then coated with a thermally insulating foam.

 Filling the cryostat
The cryostat has a hold time of at least 12 hours with the telescope stationary at zenith.
Standard practice is that the cryostat gets a refill of liquid nitrogen at the start of the night, at the end of the night and at midday.
If you find that the hold time of the cryostat is not sufficient to get you through the night without an extra refill, leave a fault report.

The BM29 cryostat is a Displex cryostat from Oxford Instruments.
The cryostat operates from around T=20 K (on the sample) up to 450 K, where the cryostat vessel has to be evacuated for T> 300 K. The set-up is controlled by an temperature controller (Oxford ITC503) which is programmed either manually or via the control software on the beamline workstation (standard operation mode).
If the VAT gate valve is closed, you can assume that the cryostat is still filled with a low pressure of He (this should be the general state), otherwise it is at ambient pressure and you pump the whole.

5.2 Cryostat Performance   (Site not responding. Last check: )
The effective lifetime of the cryostat was determined by the rate at which the super-fluid helium in the main tank was depleted through venting of gaseous phase helium.
Although this considerably reduced the heat input to the cryostat, it came at a penalty of impaired platform stability from transient temperature gradients in the struts.
Instrument electronics: a source of heat within the cryostat were the electronic systems used by the instrument detector and readout systems.
