Crossover thrash - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Some other of the earliest bands are noted as being D.R.I. (with their albums Dealing With it and Crossover), Corrosion of Conformity (Animosity) and Stormtroopers of Death (Speak English Or Die).
The style went on to include several other bands in the late 1980s, some include Cryptic Slaughter, The Accused, Wehrmacht, Attitude Adjustment, Crumbsuckers, Ludichrist, Nuclear Assault and Hirax.
An interesting note is that several key thrash bands have made songs which may be considered crossover thrash.

Cryptic Slaughter : Money Talks - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Alongside other pioneering crossover acts like New York's S.O.D., Texas' D.R.I., and fellow Californians Suicidal Tendencies, Santa Monica's Cryptic Slaughter was influenced in equal parts by the lessons of political punk rock and no holds barred thrash metal.
On its 1986 debut, Convicted, the quartet had opened a significant door, pushing hardcore into realms of sheer speed and furious hatred it had only flirted with in the past.
On Money Talks, Cryptic Slaughter's self-mandated crusade against the system begins with the album's Reagan-bashing cover artwork.

Review: After generations of human failure in seemingly baffling new versions of the same problems, hardcore and metal musicians unified intelligences to analyze the underlying spiritual breakdown that in dogma provided a submerged abstract foundation to all lies, greed, filth, corruption and murder observed as the hallmark of human progress.

Cryptic Slaughter Interview - Unchain the Underground
Cryptic Slaughter’s Stream of Consciousness has been one of my all-time favorite albums since I was a wee lad.
But the truth is, most Cryptic die-hards didn't like Stream of Consciousness either because it wasn't as fast and we started to explore some different territory.
Sweaty Nipples, also with Brian, was one of the main reasons that Cryptic came to a halt.

Cryptic Slaughter was one of the forerunners of the so-called crossover genre back in the 80`s.
Together with bands like DRI, Attitude Adjustment, Corrosion of Conformity, Septic Death and the likes, these guys came up with a music which was influenced by both metal and hardcore/ punk.

There Ramanuja found his first formal teacher, Yadavaprakasha, who was an accomplished professor of the form of the Vedanta philosophy that was in vogue at the time-a form of Vedanta that has strong affinities to Shankara's Absolute Idealistic Monism (Advaita Vedanta) but was also close to the Difference-and-non-difference view (Bhedabheda Vedanta).
In this respect, Ramanuja agrees with his Advaitin predecessor, Shankara, who held that while violence in general is evil, ritual slaughter is not any ordinary act of violence: because it is sanctioned by the Vedas, it cannot be evil (Shankara, Brahma Sutra Bhashya, III.i.25).
Ramanuja however goes further and argues that ritual slaughter is not only not evil; it is also not really a form of violence.

Far more than a simple hardcore act, Southern California's Cryptic Slaughter was arguably the ultimate speedcore band.
Though age, time, and experience would eventually teach them to slow things down on occasion, their 1986 debut album, Convicted, relies almost exclusively on the dizzying speed of thrash metal.
And in retrospect, although it was clearly not as fully realized as Cryptic Slaughter's later efforts in terms of songwriting and production, Convicted's uniquely extreme onslaught remains perhaps even more important from an influence point of view.

Your new band was completed by Eli Nelson on second guitar and Eddie on drums (who was strangely found by your mother!), but besides that we never know how far that new outfit went and even if it really became something real, tell us more about that band (which wasn't named at the time)....
Now in early ‘88, CRYPTIC as a band was going to move up to Portland and all live in the same house together.
Honestly, being a CRYPTIC SLAUGHTER fan from the early days, I never enjoyed that newer album as it was totally different from what CRYPTIC SLAUGHTER was known for, the catchy riffs were gone and as a whole it sounded different, was it a good choice to issue that album as CRYPTIC SLAUGHTER looking back?

The next morning Les Evans had a package in the mail from Brian Slagel's lawyer with record contracts for the Metal Massacre compilations and full-length LP.
In May 1989 Evans relocated to Portland, Oregon, where he reformed Cryptic Slaughter with a new line-up.

Cryptic Slaughter was one of the most well-known of the so-called crossover bands of the 80's, mixing thrash and hardcore in a matter quite different than the current metalcore trend.
The three albums released from 1986 to 1988 are still regarded as cult classics and influential in the field, clearly more hardcore than traditional metal but nevertheless finding quite a following among metal fans.
At some point something did materialize in this area (even going as far as setting up an official web site), but it's not clear what the band's current status is.
