In 1746, Capiz was made the seat of the politico-military government although it was still ecclesiastically controlled by the Bishopric of Cebu until May 31, 1837 when a Royal Decree made the province into an alcaldia.
Capiz town was renamed "Roxas City" in honor of its illustrious son, the first President of the Republic of the Philippines, President Manuel Acuña Roxas.
Capiz is one of the five provinces in Region VI, Western Visayas.

 PNP Capiz bares anti-logging gains
The Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) accomplishments against illegal logging activities and the Coconut Preservation Act of 1995 were in coordination with the provincial offices of Philippine Coconut Authority headed by Provincial Manager Jeffrey Delos Reyes and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) headed by Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) Dionisio Molina.
The CPPO report on its anti-logging campaign is in time with the Environment Month celebration this June which will be highlighted by a roadside tree planting activities and an awarding of certificates of recognition to outstanding law enforcers and individuals who helped preserve and protect the environment.

 Suspected NPA rebels ... - Aug. 13, 2003
Superintendent Eduardo Ibon, police chief of Cuartero, said about 13 alleged members of the New People's Army torched the Ceres bus owned by Vallacar Transit in Sitio Bito-on, about 200 meters away from the national highway in Cuartero.
The bus came from Caticlan in Malay town, Aklan and was bound for Iloilo City.
Ibon said the Cuartero police immediately conducted hot pursuit operation against the rebels after the company representative reported the incident.
