I have a friend whose family is originally from Trinidad and they use an herb called "thyme" which I think is actually spanish thyme or cuban oregano.
However, since we moved to Nashville, TN we weren't able to find this herb at our local plant stores until we found a plant at our local farmer's market that seems similar to be what we've gotten in the past.
The plectranthus that I know about is one that is used mainly for ornamental purposes and has several common names such as Mexican sage, Mexican oregano, Mexican mint.
