Andrew J. Berger ANATOMY OF CUCULIDAE AND MUSOPHAGIDAE 67 arises from the ventral surface of the projecting posterior iliac crest in its posterior 8 mm.; there is no origin from the free caudal vertebrae.
The correct interpretation of differences in royology within the family Cuculidae is complicated because some genera are parasitic and others are not.

Date : 10/16/2005 Time : 10:23:11 AM The name cuckoo is used for some of the 127 species of birds of the cuckoo family, Cuculidae, order Cuculiformes.
Some cuckoos are known to be brood parasites--birds that build no nests of their own but leave their eggs in the nests of other birds, which then rear the young.
The glossy cuckoos, however, are a striking emerald green.

 Cuckoo family
There is hardly a more diverse family of birds in the world than the Cuculidae.
Sibley and Monroe (1990), followed by Clements (1991), settled on five families: the Old World cuckoos (Cuculidae) in which they included the malkohas and couas; the coucals (Centropodidae); the American cuckoos (Coccyzidae); the roadrunners and ground-cuckoos (Neomorphidae); and the anis and Guira Cuckoo (Crotophagidae).
The most widespread are the Old World parasitic cuckoos (Sibley and Monroe's "Cuculidae"), some 53 species of woodland arboreal birds which lay their eggs in the nests of other species, forcing the duped "hosts" to provide all the parental care.
