		Cultivars may be either particularly desirable selections from populations of a single species, or hybrids between species.
		Cultivar epithets published before 1 January 1959 were often given a Latin form and can be readily confused with the specific epithets in botanical names: after that date, new cultivar epithets must be in a modern vernacular language to distinguish them from botanical epithets.
		Cultivars that have originated as hybrids of different species are exotic, as is a plant from a different continent, or even a different part of the same country.

	Cultivar
		The cultivar is a horticultural name that is appended to the botanical name and is used to identify a named hybrid.
		Some cultivars are even trademarked names -- this is especially true for plants that produce edible food crops.

		Nothing can be used that is likely to cause confusion (eg similarity to existing cultivar names within the denomination class, place names if more than one form of the plant exists there) or which exaggerate the merits of the cultivar.
		The cultivar epithet can only be used once within a denomination class (the genus).

	How to name a new cultivar
		A single plant is not a cultivar: a cultivar is a group of individual plants which collectively is distinct from any other, which is uniform in its overall appearance and which remains stable in its attributes.
		Cultivar epithets are always written within single quotation marks (never double quotation marks) so that they stand out from the rest of the name and so that their status is obvious.
		Check that the originator of the cultivar agrees with the proposed name (and its spelling) that you are promoting; if the originator does not, the name may have to be rejected later in favour of the originator's choice.
