Guardian Unlimited Arts reviews Def Leppard, Arena, Sheffield
Vocalist Joe Elliott - perhaps the only Sheffield United fan resident in Los Angeles - entertains the home crowd with believable tales of being beaten up as a youth for wearing pointy boots, which may explain the higher reaches of his gravelly wail.
Once able to shift 50m albums, Sheffield's finest were reduced, at their lowest point (around 1996's Slang album), to changing their winning formula to include electronics, more modern beats and - shock, horror - short hair.
In the mid-1990s, heavy metal seemed terminally unfashionable, swept away by rave culture and grunge.

I just received confirmation that my proposal to present the research I conducted during the writing of my MA thesis has been accepted by the selection committee of the International Council of Traditional Music World Conference, which will be held in Sheffield, England in August 2005.
There are a decent number of Hawai'i released albums in the "Album of the Year" category, including a number of Mountain Apple Company artists (The Brothers Cazimero for one), Ho'okena, and saw some that would not have qualified for the "Hawaiian Album" category.
We (Ka Haka 'Ula O Ke'elikolani College of Hawaiian Language) are considering whether or not to offer an Elementary Hawaiian Language class (HAW101) online this spring.

To be honest, I think that the English, more so than the British, have successfully exported their culture and beliefs to about 3 quarters of the world, and their language to all of it.
And this substrate of English language means that ideas and expressions of Englishness and English culture can permeate the globe through anglophone channels in a matter of minutes.

BBC - South Yorkshire Have Your Say - Sheffield Station
To encapsulate the needs of all its citizens and visitors to the city, Sheffield requires a clearer vision of where it wants to be in terms of architecture and culture.
Sheffield's answer of late seems to be the erection of some obscure sculpture, yes it will look nice for a couple of years - then we'll be back where we started - the drawing board.
Hopefully it would also be inspiring to the people of Sheffield as well as showing that not only does the city have an impressive industrial history, but that it continues to produce good modern designs and has the courage to shout about them.

Gated communities, the spatial revolt of the elites and time-space trajectories of segregation Abstract Residential development segregated by physical boundaries and gates has proved popular in the US and South Africa where fear of crime and freedom of choice are appealed to as legitimating factors in their proliferation.
Gated developments extend the taming of the urban frontier bringing a feudal character to urban contact which goes beyond even Smith’s (1995) argument that middle class urban homesteading and domestication through gentrification represents an attempt to tame the urban frontier with its own pioneers.
Car adverts featuring disaster, urban decay and ‘strange people’ outside imply the interior space as one of calm and security for the driver, often emphasised by the presence of a child passenger.
