Cumbria’s largest peat bog at Foulshaw Moss was officially opened to the public at a special day of activities on Sunday 1st August.
A Cumbria Wildlife Trust reserve; and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), Foulshaw Moss is one of the largest (350 hectares) remaining areas of uncut lowland raised mire or peatbog habitat in Britain.
Since 2000, Cumbria Wildlife Trust has been carrying out one of the biggest peatbog rehabilitation projects of its kind in Britain to restore Foulshaw to its former wildlife-rich condition.
