Cups and balls - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The magician makes the balls pass through the solid bottoms of the cups, jump from cup to cup, disappear from the cup and appear in other places, or vanish from various places and reappear under the cups (sometimes under the same cup).
Another of the visible three balls is placed on top of the centre cup and covered with the other two cups, the cups being tapped and lifted to show the second ball has penetrated.
This is repeated with the third ball at which time there is a ball still secretly concealed in the cups, and the performer is ready to go into the next phase, perhaps making use of the extra ball in her routine.

MAGIC - THE CUPS AND BALLS :: Designed for the curious, the beginner and the professional magician.
The Cups and Balls are often referred to as the oldest form of deception or example of magic.
However, the effect of the Cups and Balls is by no means outdated — indeed, recent presentations of the trick by the renowned authorities Michael Ammar and Paul Daniels have won numerous awards for their renditions of a seemingly timeless classic of the art of magic.
The effect itself is a series of variations where the objects appear and disappear from under the inverted cups, building up to a climax whereupon the cups are lifted to reveal that the balls are suddenly visibly larger or have turned into vegetables and fruit.
