Curdled (1996)- Moria The Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Review
Indeed it seems a major miracle that a film about a forensic cleanup crew and a serial killer, which also happens to be an offbeat comedy rather than a thriller, managed to get made at all.
The film eventually arrives at a positively hysterical scene where she asks him if the severed heads of his victims still talk after they have been removed – which is set-up for an hilarious final scene.
The film appears to be written with an insider’s knowledge of the forensic cleanup profession – you are certain that one or other of the scriptwriters must have worked there at some point.

One thing I loved about Curdled was the original plot, I don't think I've seen a film like this at any point in my life.
Curdled is a very unique film that doesn't receive the kind of attention it deserves.
The most imaginative aspect of the film is it's plot and that alone is reason enough to see it.

 miaminewtimes.com | Film | Women Behaving Badly | 1996-10-03
The film opens with a shot of Corky, a female thief recently paroled after serving five years for "redistribution of wealth," lying bound and gagged in a closet.
You find out who the killer is within the film's first five minutes; the only questions, once you get to know Gabriela and her morbid fascination with murder, are when the serial slayer and his wide-eyed fan will meet and what will happen when they do.
(The film's acting covers a lot of peaks and valleys; one constant high point is the nuanced work of supporting actor Bruce Ramsay whose character discovers Gaby's secret and courts her with a mixture of titillation and revulsion.) But the film, which grew out of a 30-minute film school project, suffers from too much padding.

"Curdled" is based on a short film that Tarantino viewed at a mystery/suspense film fest.
In "Curdled," Gabriella returns to her lifelong fascination with murders, which is so deep that potential suitors know to bring her newspaper clippings of recent killings instead of flowers.
The film's coagulated humor, mixed with its dark theme, will please anyone with a morbid nerve in his body and leave him wanting a sequel; at the same time, those not so constituted are likely to find "Curdled" curdling indeed.

Simply put, the film is a chilling and sick fl comedy, set in the Latin backdrop of Miami, about a young woman (Angela Jones) and her obsession with murder.
Produced by Quentin Tarantino, "Curdled" was originally a short student film produced at the University of Miami.
The film's initial premise of blood and gore is quite unsettling.

Curdled has a strange mix of murder and dark humor and if that somehow reminds you of Pulp Fiction, it’s probably because Quentin Tarrantino borrowed the concept of Harvey Keitel’s character in Pulp Fiction from Curdled when it was shown as a short at a film noir festival in Italy where he showed Reservoir Dogs.
However, Curdled doesn’t have the action factor of Pulp Fiction and I’d personally compare it more to Eating Raoul in its portrayal of characters dealing with death in a matter-of-fact to aloof manner; Curdled takes it up a notch in that Gabriela is simply fascinated by the subject.
The film truly is being carried by Angela Jones and even some of the smaller parts like her co-workers have more spark to their performance than Baldwin but, as said - we don't expect much more from a Baldwin.

Originally a short film written and directed by Reb Braddock, (‘cause you all know who he is) Curdled struck Tarentino like lightning and he promptly urged (forced) Braddock to make it into a feature length movie.
I would not ordinarily apply such a cliché phrase as “wickedly funny” to anything, but that is exactly what this film noir is. Gabrielle (magnificently performed by Angela Jones -‘cause you know who she is, too) is teetering on the brink of an obsession with serial killers.
I am telling you, this film is out of this world, if you don’t mind the sight of blood and laughing at crazy people, that is. I giggle sadistically to myself even now at the thought of it.

C URDLED began life as a short film of 30 minutes by John Maass and Reb Braddock, Florida State University film students.
The result is an 89-minute film that, with the redundancy cut out of it, could be very amusing at, say, 30 minutes.
The film won't work unless we're entirely convinced that Gabriela, who looks as innocent as can be, is not interested in killing anybody herself.

CURDLED is a deliciously dark and witty fl comedy, but its humour won't appeal to everyone.
Our film's heroine, Gabriela, played by Angela Jones, is a woman obssessively curious about murder and serial killers; she even keeps a scrapbook of news articles.
The one drawback of CURDLED is that it was based on a short film, and it feels like it; the material is just stretched too thin in order to fulfill a feature length running time, and some parts just seem to drag.

Accompanying the press materials for CURDLED were a few newspaper and magazine articles about actual services which clean up violent crime scenes, services like the one which is a key part of the film's premise.
CURDLED is the story of Gabriela (Angela Jones), a Colombian immigrant living in Miami who is singularly fascinated by violent crimes.
CURDLED sports a few neat stylistic flourishes, including an eye-catching opening title sequence and a great scene where Gabriela does a sensuous dance around a murder scene, but for the most part it is just one big, long, sick joke with a punch line that is not particularly worth the effort.
