Royal Australian Navy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) is the naval branch of the Australian Defence Force.
Majestic, although the name ship of the class, was not as near completion at the end of the war as Terrible and the RAN decided to have her construction completed with the latest Royal Navy carrier innovations of the time - the angled flight deck and a mirror landing aid.
Current deployments of the navy include: contributions to the multinational force in Iraq; support for the United Nations mission in East Timor; and a "regional assistance mission" with New Zealand in the Solomon Islands.

Royal Navy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The first reformation and major expansion of the Navy Royal, as it was then known, occurred in the 16th century during the reign of Henry VIII whose ships, Henri GrĂ¢ce a Dieu ("Great Harry") and Mary Rose, engaged the French navy in the battle of the Solent in 1545.
Currently, a single warship and a supporting RFA vessel is on patrol as part of Operation Oracle and the Armilla Patrol, another aspect of the UK's contribution to the War on Terror.
The Royal Navy is established under the royal prerogative, and the head of the Royal Navy, known as the Lord High Admiral, is the Queen (who is overall head of the UK Armed Forces).

 USN Ship Naming
Ships armed with 40 guns or more were of the "first class"; those carrying fewer than 40, but more than 20, guns were of the "second class." The name source for the second class was expanded to include the principal towns as well as rivers.
In the case of ships named for individuals, an effort is made to identify the eldest living direct female descendant of that individual to perform the role of ship's sponsor.
While the Navy has attempted to be systematic in naming its ships, like all institutions it has been subject to evolutionary change, and the name sources of the Navy's ships have not been immune to this change.
