Currie, still battling for survival in the BT Premiership, gave the league champions a real fight and were trailing by only five points 25 minutes into the second half.
It was Currie prop forward Colin Quigley, who put winger Simon May in for their first try and hooker Gavin Scott who squirmed over for their second.
The Currie forwards forced scrums, penalties and line-outs close to the opposition try-line but their efforts went unrewarded.

That, plus the fact two Leith players, Gordon Hurst and Rab Venters, later "defected" to become pioneers of a club which, in fairness, was to prove almost in the backyard of their homes.
And yet Currie rugby club very nearly never existed according to Stewart, who leapt at a chance to join founding fathers Bob Kirkwood, Jack Hogg, David Bisset, Alex Galbraith, Roger McLaren and Tom Chandler in spreading the word.

John Currie started playing for Clifton while still at Bristol Grammar School in the 2nd half of the 1950-51 season when only 19 and then went on to Wadham College, Oxford where he gained 4 rugby blues.
This was John Curries last cap for England while playing for Clifton.

 Rigg Race
As the villages of Currie and Balerno grew, and dependancy on the Mill for employment declined, the two villages decided to hold separate Gala Days, which in turn grew into a week of activities for Balerno Residents.
The route of the course has also changed many times, and for several years was run in the reverse direction to todays race.
The current course starts in Malleny Park, home of Currie RFC, and runners head up through the village and up towards the Pentland hills, past the ruins of the Marchbank Hotel.
