  Cursed : film review
The annoying thing about Cursed is that it could have been a brilliantly weird and quirky B movie but it lacks the right irony and wit.
Cursed suffers from an incredibly feeble script - it is filled with unintentionally funny lines and enough cheese to stock a whole supermarket.
Cursed is cursed with hammy performances and irritating characters with an abundance of loathsome traits and inadequacies.

Foster on Film - Werewolves: Cursed
Cursed is half of a good film, cut into pieces, placed out of order, mixed with clichés and weak jokes, and topped with a bad mystery.
Since this is, in part, a high school film, there has to be the bully (who has no resemblance to actual violent teens) who deep down is good and our young hero has to beat him at a sporting event.
The middle of the film should have been nothing but Ellie giving her officemates that preternatural stare of hers, and sniffing the air.

 UHM - Cursed
The film is now described as focusing on an estranged brother and sister, who are mourning the recent loss of their parents, struggling with daily life in the Los Angeles until a vicious animal attack changes everything one dark night.
Finally after several cuts the film has recieved a PG-13 rating, which means a lot of the gore that was said to be in the film was most likely removed.
Moviehole reports that the film is undergoing its final round of reshoots this week with most of the original cast to "punch up" the ending.

 Hollywood Gothique: Cursed (2005) Review
Their chief cleverness lay in openly acknowledging the slasher genre they were mining: this gave them a license to trot out all the established tropes, while critics who normally would not be caught dead in a horror film, could sing hymns of praise to their self-referential, post-modern sensibility.
Unfortunately, this "curse" turns out to be a mild annoyance at most: the central dilemma never registers, because they never really seem in danger of turning into animals or losing their humanity.
CURSED is available on DVD in two versions: the PG-13 theatrical and an unrated director's cut (with a few more minutes of gore, which probably would have earned an R-rating)

 Cursed (2005): Reviews
The film may be one of the best ever not screened in advance for critics, but that still doesn't put it in the finest company.
The film vacillates between inanity and flat-out lameness, and the decision to recut from an R-rated version to a PG-13 sucked out whatever life might have been left.
Cursed, a modern-day werewolf tale that fails to provide either Craven's trademark chills or Williamson's trademark satirical wit, is a distinctly subpar film that, but for the current boxoffice streak enjoyed by such formulaic genre entries, deserved to go direct to video.

DVD Review: Cursed - Unrated Edition
As with the Scream films, the identity of the slasher (in this case, the werewolf) is kept a secret.
It's worth noting that the film as it exists now is not the film that was originally intended.
In fact, the current cast of the film is drastically different, with many scenes having been dumped or re-filmed to accommodate the new actors.

Cursed definitely belongs more in the horror-comedy genre like the Scream pictures, and is also fairly reminiscent of those Scream knock-offs that were epidemic in the late '90's (like Urban Legend and Disturbing Behavior).
Although Cursed certainly delivers on scares for most of the film, the climax of the movie (set at the Hollywood Wax museum) is a redundant and undisciplined special effects blow-out that goes on a wee bit too long.

As the theatrical release stands, chunks of the film appear to be missing.
The most obvious material to be cut--during and after "attack" scenes--surely hurt the film, as well, although part of the problem with these scenes may have been Craven's fault.
Craven opens the film at a carnival, which is obviously theatrical, and quickly presents a psychic "performer" who happens to be a "real psychic", taking her job seriously rather than just providing entertainment.

Judy Greer, who stars in Wes Craven's troubled horror film Cursed, told SCI FI Wire that the movie faced numerous reshoots, many of which required her participation.
But sources further indicated that top executives at the Miramax Films genre arm weren't happy with the film's ending or how the special effects were progressing, specifically the look of the film's lead lupine.
The Dimension Films project -- from the "Scream" team of Craven and screenwriter Kevin Williamson -- was put on an extended hiatus during the summer so the filmmakers could plan for more special effects than originally anticipated and further develop the ending.

Slant Magazine - Film Review: Cursed
Joshua Jackson is transparent as Ricci's mysterious boyfriend Jake, a hunk putting the finishing touches on his horror movie-inspired nightclub, and Judy Greer continues working on her tired mega-bitch routine as beastly celebrity publicist Joanie.
Unlike I Was a Teenage Werewolf, Ginger Snaps, and countless werewolf movies in-between, Cursed only briefly alludes to any lycanthropy-as-puberty subtext—Jimmy's feral condition is equated to his homophobic tormentor's repressed inner queer—while lavishing baffling attention on cameos by Lance Bass, Craig Kilborn, and Scott Baio.
And even then, the film is too inept to humorously capitalize on the fact that the Happy Days heartthrob's PR flack is named Joanie.

Teenagers embracing their new werewolf abilities has been done before, most recently and more successfully in the independent hit ‘Ginger Snaps’ and the twists and turns of the ‘who is the killer plot’ was the main story of the ‘Scream’ movies but there is still a lot to enjoy here.
The film tries to bring a bit more to the character than you would expect and the actress does her best with the role but Ellie doesn’t have as much depth as she could have had because of a lack of background or real development.

 IGN: Cursed Review
The film marks the latest collaboration between screenwriter Kevin Williamson and director Wes Craven, and for our sake, let's hope it's their last; if things in Hollywood really do happen in threes, then we can already acknowledge that they were tempting fate when they decided to name their fourth film together Cursed.
That said, however, Ellie and Jimmy begin to embrace their newfound powers – he to defeat the school wrestling team, she to attract all males within a ten-mile radius – and discover that the curse of the werewolf might indeed not be so bad.
The problem with the film is not merely the hubris that the two men had in re-teaming for a derivative rip-off of their earlier work; it's that they seem to be suggesting that the rehash is an original idea.

CURSED is the story of a brother and sister who are attacked by a werewolf and become infected.
Prior to this incident, Ellie's (Christina Ricci) biggest problems were an emotionally distant boyfriend and a snotty PR representative at her company, while Jimmy (Jesse Eisenberg) mostly had to put up with the homophobic bullies at his high school.
In "Cursed," she's nothing more than an annoying, henpecking older sister to her brother (Jesse Eisenberg), who is the only redeeming part of this film.

Combustible Celluloid film review - Cursed (2005), Wes Craven, Christina Ricci, Shannon Elizabeth
The post-modern werewolf film appeared as early as Joe Dante's The Howling and John Landis's An American Werewolf in London (both 1981) and as recently as John Fawcett's Ginger Snaps (2001).
Williamson and Craven set up the film as a whodunit, and we're supposed to figure out which of the walking humans is really the killer beast, but it's more fun watching the horror conventions unfold though Craven's skillful camera.
Cursed also benefits from its palpable Los Angeles atmosphere and its warm summer nights; the whole affair actually begins at a carnival with a gypsy fortune-teller (Portia de Rossi) warning of the danger!

Movie Review - Cursed - www.ericdsnider.com - The Official Website of Eric D. Snider
It amazes me that the man who wrote the smart, self-aware teen horror flicks in the "Scream" series could also write "Cursed," a film that indulges in most of the clichés that those films mocked.
The twist in "Scream" was that the kids had actually seen "Friday the 13th," "Halloween," and all their spawn, and therefore knew the rules of survival.
The film occasionally flirts with campy inside-Hollywood humor, and that's fine, as far as it goes.
