Cursor treated his soldiers with such harshness that they allowed themselves to be defeated; but after he had regained their good-will by more lenient treatment and lavish promises of booty, they fought with enthusiasm and gained a complete victory.
Cursors strictness was proverbial; he was a man of immense bodily strength, while his bravery was beyond dispute.
Cursor mundi was edited for the Early English Text Society in 1874f 89~ by Dr Richard Morris in parallel columns from four MSS.

Cursor Mundi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cursor Mundi (Latin, "Runner of the World") is a lengthy religious history written around 1300 AD by an anonymous cleric.
The work is linguistically important as a solid record of the Northumbrian English dialect of the era, and is therefore the most-often quoted single work in the Oxford English Dictionary.
Cursor Mundi interpolates material from hagiographic sources, including The Golden Legend, various Latin legendary cycles.

 Cursor Mundi
A Cursor Mundi is a Middle-English poem of nearly 30,000 lines containing a sort of summary of universal history.
The main authority upon the Cursor Mundi is the elaborate edition of the poem edited by DR. RICHARD MORRIS for the Early English Text Society (1874-1893, 3 vols.), with appendixes and critical appreciations by several other scholars.
The Cursor Mundi also receives full attention in all modern histories of English literature, of which the best is the Cambridge History, edited by A. WARD, (Cambridge, 1907).

 Literary Encyclopedia: Cursor Mundi
The Latin title Cursor Mundi is given in several manuscripts and is explained in a couplet near the beginning of the poem: “Cursor o werld man aght it call, / For it almast ouer-rennes all” (lines 267-68): as a cursor, the poem will “over-run” the whole course of the history of the world.
The author of Cursor Mundi is not known but it is apparent from manuscript evidence that in its original form the poem was composed around the year 1300 and that it was written in a northern dialect.
Cursor Mundi was a popular text over a long period but it was far from being a stable one, a circumstance that points to its having been regarded as a text “for use”, susceptible to adaptation and revision as a teaching tool in a pastoral context.
