Elisabeth and her brother, Curt, made a $5,000 donation, and Curt, who lives in London, England, and Bermuda, wrote: “I am happy to send you a donation in memory of my mother, Anita Schlemmer Engelhorn.
She married Curt Engelhorn in 1918 and they had two children, Elisabeth and Curt.
Elisabeth and Curt will enjoy visiting the KAP house with baby Anita, named for their mother, and walking the grounds were the Schlemmer home sat, where the girls played together, sang together and talked to each other and perhaps heard the windmill between spoken words, just as Elisabeth and I did at the Hoskins/Kuykendall Ranch.

Among the billionaires who made Forbes magazine's list of billionaires announced last week were Five Star Island resident Curt Engelhorn, who was identified as the 49th richest person on the world with a fortune estimated at $5.7 billion.
Engelhorn was one of the owners of Bermuda-based Corange Ltd., which in turn controlled German pharmaceutical company Boeringher Mannheim.
Engelhorn has given large amounts of money to the Bermuda College and the Bermuda Biological Station.

I'm a descendant of Johann Peter Engelhorn, born 01-12-1850 at Hockenheim, died 28-11-1928 at Schwetzingen, son of Johann Peter Engelhorn, born 19-10-1825 at Hockenheim, died 26-05-1906 at Wiesloch, married to Eva Kath.
My father is Peter Engelhorn of Altlussheim.His father was Jacob Engelhorn,husband of Frieda nee Hettmannsperger.My ties to Altlussheim and Hockenheim are very strong and my family and I visit on a yearly basis.

Our connection to Curt Engelhorn came through the memory of Mary Giberson.
Mary remembered that Curt’s mother, Anita Schlemmer, had been a childhood friend of Katherine Anne Porter.
Curt visited the house during the restoration period and wanted to honor his mother’s memory, as well as that of Katherine Anne Porter, by supporting it.

Page 345; Dale E. Engelhorn died 29 August 2000 in Pontiac, Illinois, and was buried 1 September 2000 at San Jose, Logan County, Illinois.

Just three years ago, the house in which Katherine Anne Porter grew up in Kyle was about to go on the market.
Last April, however, Curt Engelhorn, a pharmaceutical magnate from Germany, came to Central Texas to visit the land where his mother had grown up as a childhood friend of Katherine Anne Porter and ended up donating $600,000 to restore the Porter house and transform it into a museum and residence for writers.
His is not the only contribution, of course; the Burdine Johnson Foundation in Buda, the Katherine Anne Porter House Restoration Committee, various individual donors, and SWT deserve accolades for their efforts to raise nearly $1 million toward the restoration.

PROGRAM: Since its inception in 1996, the American Berlin Opera Foundation has held an annual scholarship competition for American singers to study at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in Germany.
Winners receive the Curt Engelhorn Scholarship, which includes a stipend for the amount of $15,000 and a round-trip flight to Berlin, Germany.
During the year, the students are offered roles in Deutsche Oper productions for which they receive an honorarium.
