  Welcome to Boggs Township, Centre County
Roland Curtin, father of Andrew Gregg Curtin, Governor of Pennsylvania during the Civil War, purchased 11,000 acres of land and with Moses Boggs erected the Eagle Iron Works in 1810.
Now, on apporximately 60 acres of land, Curtin Village and the restored Eagle Iron Works are owned by the State and administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.
The Curtin Village historical site is supported by admissions, special events, patrons and the work and contributions of volunteers and members of the non-profit Roland Curtin Foundation.

 Description of the Geology of Centre County Pennsylvania
Caverns filled with iron ore, on Sinking creek near Egg Hill in Potter Township, prove that the great brown hematite pipe ore deposits of Centre county fill depressions in the limestone which were once roofed like other caverns.
Of these immense ore beds the largest and most famous is that of Pennsylvania furnace, in the southern corner of the county, the open excavations extending 1500 feet in length by 500' wide and 60' deep, the ore being known to be 30' or 40' deeper.

Company B of the 21st Pennsylvania Cavalry, known as the "Adams County Cavalry" during Gettysburg and as "Bell's Cavalry" after the Campaign, has two monuments, both of which are within 30 yards of each other on the Baltimore Pike.
The members were mustered in at Camp Curtin in Harrisburg, and in Philadelphia, on June 21, 1863.
Bell was born in Menallen Township in northern Adams County in 1830, descended from Scots-Irish settlers from the mid-1700's.

Also known as the "163rd Pennsylvania Volunteers" this unit's monument is atop Bushman Hill at the base of Big Round Top.
Allegheny, Lycoming, Philadelphia, and Cambria, the unit was mustered in at Camp Curtin in Harrisburg, from August to November, 1862.
He was from a prominent Lancaster County family and began his career as a Captain in the 2nd Pennsylvania Cavalry.

Among the aged tombstones in the cemetery across the road from the Manada United Christian Church in East Hanover Township is one with the distinctive pointed arch commonly found on markers used for those who fought for the Confederate States of America.
East Hanover Township is many miles away from the nearest Civil War battle site, and it does not lie close to the line of retreat which General Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia used to retire from Pennsylvania after its disastrous invasion in late June of 1863.
