  VIA Online: Oregon's Crater Lake
Tucked within a circle of jagged cliffs, the lake's blueness is so improbable that, according to local lore, it prompted one first-time visitor decades ago to write an angry letter to her congressman, accusing park rangers of lacing the lake with dye.

Nearly 2,000 feet of wire was unspooled before the pipe touched bottom—ranking Crater Lake as the deepest in the United States and the seventh deepest in the world.

Space Today Online -- Solar System Planet Earth -- meteors, meteorites, and meteoroids explained
One of the largest meteorite craters in the United States is in the state of Missouri where a rock 1,200 feet in diameter plunged into Earth's atmosphere sometime around 310 to 340 million years ago.
The impact crater encircles the modern community of Vista, making it one of only two U.S. communities, along with Middlesboro, Kentucky, totally encircled by a meteorite crater or crater remnants, according to geologist George H. Davis, a member of the team that used shallow core drilling to investigate the Weaubleau-Osceola meteorite impact in July 2003.
The crater, known as Kebira, which means "large" in Arabic, is on the northern tip of the Gilf Kebir region of southwestern Egypt near Libya.

GARY CURTIS BAUER and FINIS HOWARD WALKER then made, possessed and detonated unregistered destructive devices consisting of two five gallon plastic buckets containing a booster along with the same mixture of explosive materials and components contained in the smaller devices previously detonated by the members present.

Amazon.com: Asteroids: A History: Books: PEEBLES CURTIS,Curtis Peebles   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
In this engaging volume, Curtis Peebles surveys the science of asteroids, offering a highly readable account of the many ways in which they form out of the flotsam and jetsam of larger celestial bodies, the dust and debris of space.
Advanced by both poorly equipped amateurs and by world-renowned professionals, the study of asteroids has repeatedly shattered scientific orthodoxies, forcing theorists to rethink the structure of the solar system and the history of our own planet, while spurring observers to devise new astronomical techniques and equipment.
The Arizona crater, as it turns out, may help solve the mystery of the dinosaurs' extinction, even as it forces international debates over the need for a planetary defense against an asteroid catastrophe.
