Cushman Kellogg Davis (June 16, 1838 – November 27, 1900) was an American politician who served as the 7th Governor of Minnesota from January 7, 1874 to January 7, 1876 and as a U.S. Senator from March 4, 1887 until his death.
Senator Davis served in the peace treaty talks that ended the Spanish-American War.

Cushman, a small and somewhat eccentric gentleman, was born in Woodstock, Ohio in 1845 and became a noted photographer, sculptor and painter.
Warren Cushman, himself, served as a bugler in the army and is one of the individuals represented in bas - relief on the memorial.
In, 1999, the badly deteriorated cement monument was reconstructed and rededicated by Cushman descendants.

Davis has been so active in privately touting the downtown plan that the Port Commission is planning a public workshop on the stadium issue in June or July.
Davis said he has taken up the cause of closing the 10th Avenue terminal in favor of a football stadium because he believes the terminal is beset by constraints that will always limit its success as a cargo facility.
Davis said the city will not be able to repay the $175 million unless the stadium is built in a redevelopment area, where tax money derived from the projects can be applied to the debt.

CUSHMAN KELLOGG DAVIS (1838-1900), American political leader and lawyer, was born in Henderson, New York, on the 16th of June 1838.
He was taken by his parents to Wisconsin Territory in the year of his birth, and was educated at Carroll College, Waukesha, Wisconsin, and at the university of Michigan, from which he graduated in 1857.
Few public men in the United States since the Civil War have combined skill in diplomacy, constructive statesmanship, talent for political organization, oratorical ability and broad culture to such a degree as Senator Davis.

Much of what is known about Pauline Cushman comes from memoirs written to exploit her brief career as a Union spy during the Civil War.
Cushman was appearing in a road show in Union-held Louisville, KY, when two paroled Confederate officers offered her $300 to toast Jefferson Davis during her performance.
Cushman's knowledge of Southern movements and strategies was a great help to Union Gen. William Rosecrans, and President Lincoln awarded her with an honorary major's commission.

His father, Horatio N. Davis, was county treasurer of Waukesha county for several terms; was state senator from Rock county, Wis., two terms, and was a captain in a Wisconsin regiment during the civil war.
Both are still vigorous in mind and body and reside at St. Paul, Minn. Their distinguished son, Cushman K., was educated at Carroll college of that town and graduated from Michigan University in 1857.
Davis was born in Henderson, Jefferson County, N. Y., June 16, 1838.

Davis graduated cum laude from Princeton University in 1892 and received his A.M degree (1894) and Ph.D.(1895) from Columbia University.
From 1895-1899, Davis served as a professor of astronomy and geodessy at Columbia.
Davis then served as construction engineer and auditor for the cities of Pittsburgh and New York until 1910.

A small cottage east of the DAVIS property was never without a tenant and was occupied by Dr. SLYE during his residence here.

 California: Davis takes aim at solving federal water cut
Gray Davis announced this week that he is summoning representatives for the water agencies ---- the San Diego County Water Authority, Imperial Irrigation District, Metropolitan Water District and Coachella Valley Water District ---- to his office Tuesday in the hope of salvaging the still-up-in-the-air San Diego County-Imperial Irrigation District water transfer.
However, it remains unclear as to exactly what Davis can do to force a deal, because all issues involving water rights are legal ones, and have been historically adjudicated by the courts.
Davis is the latest to take a swing at forcing a deal.

In 1862, Pauline Cushman was a struggling actress employed in a Louisville playhouse.
In a play that required her character to give a toast, she was dared on one occasion to toast Jefferson Davis.
General Bragg had her tried, and a military court sentenced her to hang, whereupon her health broke and her sentence was delayed.

During his single term as Minnesota's seventh governor, Cushman K. Davis confronted a menace that threatened to ruin the state's farm economy.
A son of a Yankee farmer who moved to southern Wisconsin during his infancy, Davis graduated from Waukesha's Carroll College and, at age 19, from the University of Michigan's law school.
Liberal Republicans hailed the election of their 36-year-old candidate; one pundit claimed that this young "prophet" would challenge the "Ramsey wing" of "old fogies." Once in office, Governor Davis found it considerably more difficult to control the railroads effectively than to condemn them rhetorically.

Born at Henderson, New York, June 16, 1838, he moved in childhood to Waukesha, Wisconsin.
He died at St. Paul, Minnesota, on November 27, 1900 and was buried in Section 2 of Arlington National Cemetery.
His wife, Anna Agnew Doll Davis (the subsequent wife of Hunter Doll) is buried with him.
