Cut and paste - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-08-20)
In human-computer interaction, cut and paste is a user interface paradigm for a means of moving text, data, files or objects from a source to a destination.
Whereas cut and paste is usually done with a mouse on Windows-like environment, it may also sometimes be done entirely from the keyboard, especially in UNIX text editors, such as pico or vi.
The most common kind of cutting and pasting without a mouse involves the entire current line, but it may also involve text after the cursor until the end of the line and other more sophisticated operations.

However, I've noticed that a lot of people are being referred here to answer more general questions of how copying and pasting work under X, or, more specifically, how they should implement copying and pasting in their own X applications.
But when pasting that into a word processor, you'd want to keep the font information: if both applications spoke HTML, they could use that as the intermediate format by which they transferred the data.
When trying to copy and paste an image into a text editor that can't do images, the text editor might decide that the next best thing would be to paste the filename of the image, or the URL.

Every edit requires marking the section of tape to be removed, cutting it out with the blade, and splicing together what remains.
My only guide to where to cut the tape is my memory and the few notes I jotted on a notepad during the interview.
Moving a question and an answer forward in an interview means slicing off that section, putting it on another reel, cuing the master tape to the right moment, cutting it at the appropriate place, and reinserting the question and answer with splicing tape.
