Sensory receptor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Odour receptors in olfactory receptor neurons, for example, are activated by interacting with molecular structures on the odor molecule.
A sensory receptor's adequate stimulus is the stimulus modality for which it possesses the adequate sensory transduction apparatus.
Cutaneous receptors are sensory receptors found in the dermis or epidermis.

The different classes of cutaneous receptors, like all sensory receptors, are defined in two ways: by their anatomical structures, and by the type of electrical signals they send along their nerve fibres.
Pressure on the skin causes a sustained discharge of nerve impulses; as with the Merkel cell, the frequency of nerve impulses is proportional to the intensity of the stimulus.

The sensory receptor with endings in the periphery is referred to as the primary sensory neuron or the primary afferent, meaning that it is the first neuron in the sensory input chain.
Cutaneous receptors are primary afferent fibers with their sensory region in the layers of skin.
The receptor is formed from the terminal of an afferent fiber that has its cell body in, or near, a dorsal root ganglion or cranial nerve ganglion.

Differences in clinical behaviour and immunophenotype between primary cutaneous and primary nodal anaplastic large cell ...   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-08-21)
The histological, immunophenotypic and clinical features of 19 primary cutaneous anaplastic large cell lymphomas (cutaneous ALCL) were compared with those of 18 primary nodal anaplastic large cell lymphomas (nodal ALCL) of T-cell or null cell type.
Patients with cutaneous ALCL were generally older (median 61 years) than patients with nodal ALCL (median 24 years) and, in contrast to the latter group, did not show bimodal age distribution.
The better survival of cutaneous ALCL patients could not be ascribed to differences in age, stage or initial mode of treatment.

In two distinct ways, they were able to demonstrate that these peptides originate, at least in large measure, from distinctive components of the T cell receptor chains of the malignant cells.
These peptides are derived from the clone-specific T cell receptor, and the results may also explain how normal T cells are regulated through an idiotypic network.
These include epitopes on particular TCR chains, the CD45RO isoform preferentially expressed by memory T cells, and the cutaneous lymphoid associated antigen (CLA) shown by Picker and his colleagues to be the homing receptor for skin-seeking T cells.
