Midnight Eye review: Cutie Honey (2004, director: Hideaki ANNO)
Cutie Honey is, to my knowledge, the first live action anime that actually preserves the feel and look of the original series successfully.
They are attempting to steal Honey's "Love System" which her father invented to bring his daughter back from the dead and bestow immortal life and immense superpowers upon her.
It probably accounts for no more than five minutes of Cutie Honey in all, but there are these beautiful moments where the shells of their crafted personae crack, and we see the human beings beneath.

Japanese Movie Review | Cutie Honey (2004) Go Nagai, Eriko Sato
When Cutie transforms, we see a 3D version of a spinning Cutie (who is very naked, with strategically placed hands to cover her, er, assets) as her uniform magically grafts onto her.
The live-action Cutie also keeps losing her clothes, and routinely ends up in bra and panties, although I don't think there was a case of her clothes being ripped off.
In fact, after seeing Cutie in about a dozen gratuitous scenes showing off her almost-naked body, I'm not sure how we were suppose to relate those scandalous moments to the "power of love" and all the other new age nonsense that creeps up at the end of "Cutie Honey".

Cutie Honey is not unlike the '60s TV serial Batman in its lurid psychedelia and campness.
But, as Cutie battles her way past the various Panther Claw members — Gold, Scarlet, Black and, ah, Cobalt — to eventually confront Sister Jill in her lair, the film also reveals itself to be surprisingly sentimental.

Honey, along with the villain cast, is incredibly well dressed with meticulous detail put into every stitch and every rhinestone with colors so bright they’re almost toxic.
A scene where Honey fries Cobalt Claw to a crisp and her screams of pain are replaced by Honey’s own cries of grief and agony are truly saddening and quite touching.
The particular version of “Cutie Honey” that I’m reviewing is a two disc special edition and as you might have already inferred it has a butt load of extras.

 Cutie Honey (JAPAN 2004)
Realizing she's low on energy, Honey does what any normal young girl caught in such a situation would do: she runs out of the house dressed in nothing more than a bra, panties, and a midriff-covering garbage bag and sprints through the streets of Japan in search of her neighborhood grocery store.
Although plucky and perky as ever, Honey's behavior tends to alienate most of her coworkers, and her propensity for being late certainly hasn't won her many fans in the office either.
Cutie Honey has so much momentum that it almost always seems to be moving—even when technically it's not.

Granted, Cutie Honey wasn't exactly the sort of cartoon I watched as a kid - created by the infamous Gô Nagai, the anime's titular character was a shapely android who could transform into any number of costumes, each with their own power, but in the process of doing so, she'd lose all of her clothing.
Although there are a handful of surprisingly emotional moments during which Honey wrestles with her loneliness, Anno generally realizes the silliness of the whole endeavor and responds in kind.
