Cwen of Aaradan is a very independent woman who is in conflict with her father because he wants her to become a Guardian, one who protects those in high power in the seven kingdoms.
Cwen’s journey through the haunting pain of her abuse, overcoming her unrelenting anger and becoming strong enough to find trust in herself is the main theme of the story.
Cwen is a complex character who has suffered severe abuse in the past, and as a result, she is an angry, fearful woman whose relationships with the men in her life are all troubled.

The strongest, most three-dimensional character is Cwen, but even that character is so unpredictable and volatile that she loses all glamour to me. She routinely greets eventual allies by attempting to kill them.

October 16, 2002 at 11:03:07 PM According to the book "The writer's guide to everyday life in the middle ages: the british isles fro 500 -1500" by Sherrilyn Kenyon the names Bretwalda (m) means King, and the name Cwen (f) means Queen in Saxon.
For the record I find the name Bretwalda hiddeious and feminine...
