After it has been very silent around the XBoxemulatorCXBX as of late, there're now some breaking news over at the official site: Turok is *completly* playable by now and only some minor graphical glitches are left.
Caustik: Cxbx was put on the backburner for quite some time, but recently I have sparked it back up and I try to work on it 3-4 times a week for at least an hour.
Cxbx is not halted, but it is definately a lower priority than I would like it to be.
It is going to blank screen and/or crashing after the menu, but the menu looks real ~~ nice (it was just a swizzling issue that prevented things from working correctly yesterday).09.08.04 - caustik I actually got a chance to work on Cxbx for a change tonight - and got Panzar running with glichy graphics.
This is a still shot of the menu which is actually animating a bunch of wacky things but with incorrect textures.09.06.04 - caustik Wow it has been a long time since an update...
Cxbx appears to be inactive and hasn't been updated since sometime in 2004 due in part, to the fact that Caustik has been tied up by a full time job working at DivX, Inc..
Currently Cxbx does not run any games but Turok: Evolution and assorted demos, however, there is no better Xboxemulator available on the net.
This is a little helpful guide that I came up with for those who wish to help Cxbx project, but don't know about programming (and no, I'm not calling non-programmers dummies).
To check to see what XDK version your game is using with a trace build of Cxbx, go to View->Debug Output (Kernel)->Console and enable logging through the console.
The first thing you should see is Cxbx locating Xbox APIs by their XDK versions.
As soon as there are games I want to play on the PS3 exclusively, I'll get one.
Actually there is some use in modding since you need a modded Xbox to legally create the game image from your own personal copy of the game for play in this.
Theres nothing wrong with poping in an xbox game you bought and playing it on your computer, if the software you are using is legal, which it is.
That is, if you had the XDK and created an Xbox "game" that did absolutely nothing, Cxbx could run it :P. Sounds pointless, but it is actually very significant - New icon!
version: 0.1.2 (07/16/2002) --------------------------- - cxbx now dumps.xbe file information in a.txt file.
