Seymour led the NL in strikeouts in both 1897 and '98.
Seymour hits Honus Wagner with a pitch today and plunked him two days ago as well.
Seymour was with the Giants from 1896 to 1900 as a pitcher and outfielder, and in 1905 led the NL in batting, RBIs, slugging percentage, and 2nd in homers (8).

James Bentley "Cy" Seymour (December 9, 1872 in Albany, New York - September 20, 1919 in New York, New York) was an American center fielder and pitcher in Major League Baseball.
Primarily a center fielder, Seymour was a pitcher for the first five years of his career, ending with a 61-56 record and a 3.76 ERA in 140 appearances (123 as a starter).
Seymour enjoyed his best season in 1905, when he led the National League in batting average (.377), hits (219) RBI (121), doubles (40), triples (21) and slugging percentage (.559).

Starting while Seymour was in high school and continuing during part of his college career, in his "spare time" he started and ran boys’ teams that played on the Parade Grounds of Prospect Park, Brooklyn, during the late twenties and early thirties.

Former Cubs infielder Seymour "Cy" Block, whose granddaughter's quest to obtain a rare baseball card depicting him was told in Q ("It's a Swing and a Miss," Sept. 29, 2002), died Sept. 22 on Long Island, N.Y. He was 85.
The card was from a set produced in 1976 and 1977 by two baseball card show promoters, and only 1,000 of them were made.
In addition to his wife, Cy is survived by three daughters, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The Reds, who have retired three numbers this season, will honor their past one more time in 1998 after the local chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America on Friday selected infielder Tony Perez and outfielder Cy Seymour for induction into the Reds Hall of Fame.
They will become the 52nd and 53rd players to receive the honor when they are inducted in a ceremony on Aug. 28 before the Reds-Florida Marlins game at Cinergy Field.

Cy Block, a third baseman who hit.302 in 17 major league games, died on Sept. 22, 2004 in Manhasset, N.Y. He made his debut with the Cubs during the 1942 season and he hit.364 in 33 at-bats with four RBI and two stolen bases.
He then served in the Coast Guard during World War II and he didn't reappear in the major leagues until 1945 with the Cubs.
