With the Cyanophyceae must be included, as their nearest allies, the Bacteriaceae (see Bacteriology).
A census of the Cyanophyceae with their two main groups is given below: I. Coccogoneae -2 families, 29 genera, 253 species.
In the case of the freshwater algae, however, belonging to the Chlorophyceae and Cyanophyceae, although they required to be immersed during the vegetative period, the reproductive cells are often capable of resisting a considerable degree of desiccation, and in this condition are dispersed through great distances by various agencies.

 Lichens - LoveToKnow 1911
The fungal part of the organism nearly always consists of a number of the Discomycetes or Pyrenomycetes, while the algal portion is a member of the Schizophyceae (Cyanophyceae or Blue-green Algae) or of the Green Algae; only in a very few cases is the fungus a member of the Basidiomycetes.
The special fungi which take part in the association are, with rare exceptions, not found growing separately, while the algal forms are constantly found free.
The foreign algae are always members of the Cyanophyceae and on the same individual and even in the same cephalodium more than one type of gonidium may be found.

Process for selectively extracting dyestuffs contained in cyanophyceae algae, the so-extracted dyestuffs and their use, ...
It is known that the so-called "blue" algae (Cyanophyceae) particularly of the Spirulina species, contain a certain number of pigments in various proportions.
When starting from fresh algae, re-suspended after freezing or crushing, the lysing of algae cells is generally too high: the diffusion of the pigments is then poorly selective and the separation of the extract from the residual mass of algae is very difficult.
In fact, it is applicable to any Cyanophyceae algae since they all contain phycocyanine and carotenoids, but in proportions which vary to a large extent from one species to another.

Water bloom is caused by mass propagation of Cyanophyceae (Aphanizomenon flosaquae, Anabaena flosaquae and Microcystis aeruginosa).
Such algae accumulations were observed in the coves of the downstream part of the reservoir and had been brought there by the wind.

Influence of nutrient concentrations on the seasonal abundance and distribution of Cyanophyceae in the coastal region of Mount Cameroon
Water management in the coastal region of Mount Cameroon is threatened by extensive and persistent noxious blooms of Cyanophyceae (blue-green algae) in the surface and near-surface mesotrophic and eutrophic zones.
Nutrient concentrations and species composition of Cyanophyceae were investigated from surface waters at 15 stations from three sites along the Mount Cameroon region (Mudeka Creek, Tito Creek and Idenau Beach) during the rainy season, from July to August 1999, and during the dry season, from February to March 2000.

Process for the treatment of waste water from food processing plants - Patent 4966713
In a processing for treating waste containing effluent water from a food processing plant, the effluent water is contacted with a flocculant comprising a crude algal composition or a crude alkali processed algal composition obtained from algae selected from the classes Rhodophyceae, Cyanophyceae, Chlorophyceae and Phaeophyceae, at an acidic pH.
A floc, which contains substantially all of the solid waste components of the effluent water, is formed as a result of the treatment process, and can be recovered for use in animal feedstocks or as other products such as fertilizers, or safely disposed of an in landfill operations.
In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, waste containing effluent water from a food processing plant is contacted, at an acidic pH, with a flocculant comprising a crude algal composition obtained from algae selected from the classes Rhodophyceae, Cyanophyceae, Chlorophyceae and Phaeophyceae and mixtures of two or more thereof.

Cyanophyceae were ecologically favoured by low transparency, nitrogen limitation and high nutrients regenerated in the water column, while small species of Dinophyceae and Chrysophyceae were promoted by a higher photic layer, nitrogen content and benthic nutrient regeneration.
Extra input of nutrients (proceeding from fish-kill in February1991, from decomposition of macro-algae after a temporary phase of colonization in August-September 1992, and from abundant rainfalls) induced an ephemeral growth of larger species at the expense of Cyanophyceae.

For the Philippine catalogue, I relied on Bourrelly (1970), whose comprehensive treatment of freshwater forms, with incidental mention of marine forms, served well.
Recently, a taxonomic scheme covering the entire spectrum of Cyanophyceae and involving major restructuring in certain portions of the spectrum has been proposed (Anagnostidis and Komárek, 1985; 1988; 1990 and Komárek and Anagnostidis, 1986; 1989).
To some biologists, the difficulties presented to a cataloguer of Cyanophyceae would be resolved if these organisms were considered bacteria.

Other correlations between number of eggs and some factors, such as temperature, salinity, Chlorophyceae, Cyanophyceae, and between B. plicatilis density and Cyanophyceae, Chlorophyceae and temperature, were not statistically significant.
Species of the latter, as well as Cyanophyceae in general, are considered a low-quality food, deficient in essential highly unsaturated fatty acids (DeMott and Müller-Navarra 1997, Gulati and DeMott 1997).

Include the Cyanophyceae, or Cyanobacteria, under the ICNP.
The taxonomy of the Cyanobacteria remains unsettled, with botanists classifying them as algae (Cyanophyceae, Myxophyceae) under the Botanical Code of Nomenclature, together with eukaryotic algae, all other plants, and fungi.
Yet these organisms are bacteria and should be classified under the ICNP, following its key principle of preserving living type cultures.

The purpose of this work was to identify the apparent effects on the phytoplankton of the Bay of Quinte (northeastern Lake Ontario) of two environmental alterations—a point-source phosphorus loading reduction in the late 1970s and the establishment of invading zebra mussels, Dreissena spp., about 1995.
After the P loading reduction, there were significant declines in biovolume of total phytoplankton (–51%), Chlorophyceae (–66%), Dinophyceae (–58%), Bacillariophyceae (–56%), Cryptophyceae (–52%), and Cyanophyceae (–26%).
The cyanophyte decline was attributed mainly to non-nitrogen- fixing species.
