The Chatham Island Parakeet is regarded as a subspecies of the Yellow-Crowned Parakeet and classified as Cyanomorphus auriceps forbesi.

Yellow Crowned (Cyanoramphus auriceps auriceps) the New Zealand Yellow Crown This species is found in remote locations on the North, South and Stewart Islands together with the Auckland Islands which are located some 400 kilometres south of Stewart Island.
