  Cyathea cooperi
Although Cyathea cooperi has been overwintered successfully in England and other cool climates, I do not generally tend to recommend it to gardeners in such locations unless they really want it for their collection, or it is the only species they can get hold of.
It is, in fact, the least hardy species of Cyathea to which I have given a sub-page of its own (and I've done this only because it is such a well-known species).

Cyathea cooperi is a medium to large, fast growing tree fern with 10-12 m high slender and good looking trunk and about 15 cm in diameter.Its original habitat is Australia, it is often seen in subtropical and tropical areas.
Cyathea Smithii is a beautiful tree fern from North Island, South Island, Stewart Island and Chatham islands of New Zealand and is found on the subantarctic Auckland Islands and is therefore the most southerly occuring tree fern in the world.
Cyathea tomentosissima is a rather small tree fern with a trunk that starts growing after 4 years and becomes 1-2 m tall and 15 cm in diameter, with fronds that are 1-1.5 m in length.

Cyathea australis is an attractive, reasonably fast-growing treefern with a stocky, fl trunk and fronds that range in length from 6 - 10'.
Indeed, the fronds are often lost by the end of a winter in Australia, as is the case with Cyathea dregei in South Africa.
It is rare in cultivation and its cold hardiness is not known.
