The track cycling will be held at Melbourne Park, the road race will be contested on a circuit through the Royal Botanic Gardens, and the State Mountain Bike Course, Lysterfield Park will host the mountain bike event.
The mountain biking events will take place on 23 March 2006 at Lysterfield Park.

Journalists from around the Commonwealth have been tracking for the past several weeks (with angst) the absences of star athletes from the Melbourne Commonwealth Games from injury, illness or fatigue, some journalists bemoaning the situation and laying the success or failure (and perhaps financial success) of the games on the appearance of these few athletes.
The games were to be held in Delhi, in part as a test event to prepare for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, but organizers thought the games might serve more to distract than to prepare.
The torch was lit in a ceremony at the Coliseum in Rome, at the Arch of Constantine.

 Commonwealth Games Federation amenable to cricket
The Delhi Commonwealth Games organizing committee has asked the Commonwealth Games Federation to lift its 15-discipline cap so that it can include money-spinning disciplines like cricket in the 2010 Games, to be held in New Delhi.
Addressing a press conference in Delhi on Friday, Commonwealth Games Federation chairman Michael Fennell said the 2010 organizing committee's request is being considered but it would have to make a presentation to the General Assembly of the CGF on March 9, 2006 in Melbourne and convince the committee about the same.
The Games feature 15 disciplines, namely aquatics, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, cycling, gymnastics, hockey, lawn bowls, net ball, rugby 7s, shooting, squash, table tennis, triathlon, weightlifting, of which athletics, lawn bowls, rugby sevens, swimming and netball are mandatory.
