Polymerization process for cis-1,4-polybutadiene using cycloalkane solvents and an aromatic polymerization regulator - ...
It was unexpectedly found that when a cycloalkane was used as the chief solvent in the polymerization of butadiene, the polymerization proceeded at too fast a rate as a result of which it was difficult to control the polymerization temperature.
Thus the present invention is an improved process of butadiene-1,3 polymerization employing a cycloalkane solvent and from 0.1 to 2 percent by weight of an alkyl substituted benzene as a polymerization regulator.
Cycloalkanes useful in the process are those having 5 to 8 carbon atoms in the rings.

Rule A-11. Unsubstituted Compounds and Radicals# (MONOCYCLIC HYDROCARBONS)
The generic name of saturated monocyclic hydrocarbons (with or without side chains) is "cycloalkane".
11.2 - Univalent radicals derived from cycloalkanes (with no side chains) are named by replacing the ending "-ane" of the hydrocarbon name by "-yl", the carbon atom with the free valence being numbered as 1.
The double and triple bonds are given numbers as low as possible as in Rule A-3.3.

 Cycloalkane Information
Cycloalkanes are chemical compounds with a one or more rings of carbons to which hydrogens are attached according to the formula C
Cycloalkanes with a single ring are named analogously to their normal alkane counterpart of the same carbon count: cyclopropane, cyclobutane, cyclopentane, cyclohexane, etc. The larger cycloalkanes, with greater than 20 carbon atoms are typically called cycloparaffins.
Cycloalkanes are classified into small, normal and bigger cycloalkanes, where cyclopropane and cyclobutane are the small ones, cyclopentane, cyclohexane, cycloheptane are the normal ones, and the rest are the bigger ones.

Cycloalkane base oil, methods of making cycloalkane base oil, and dielectric liquid comprising cycloalkane base oil, the cycloalkane base oil comprising a quantity of isoparaffins and from 50 wt.
% of said cycloalkane base oil (as measured by mass spectroscopy); and, [0007] one or more antigassing agent selected from the group consisting of non-phenolic alkyl substituted or partially saturated aromatic compounds comprising at least one labile hydrogen atom and diaryls, said quantity being effective to reduce the gassing tendency of the dielectric liquid.
Generally, the hydrocracking conditions are effective to convert polynuclear aromatics in the heavy aromatic gas oil into smaller partially hydrogenated aromatic and hydrogenated species, to convert some normal paraffins to isoparaffins and to convert sulfur and nitrogen present in the heavy aromatic gas oil to hydrogen sulfide and ammonia.

 Naming Cycloalkanes
Cycloalkanes are ring structures with the general formula: C
Use the cycloalkane as the parent chain if it has a greater number of carbons than any alkylsubstituent.
If an alkyl chain off the cycloalkane has a greater number of carbons, then use the alkyl chain as the parent and the cycloalkane as a cycloalkyl-substituent.

Liquid phase oxidation of cycloalkane compound (US6930209)
A method for liquid phase oxidation of a cycloalkane compound is provided by which the cycloalkane compound intended to be oxidized mixes with water to form an azeotropic mixture, and then an oxygen enriched gas is introduced to perform an oxidation reaction.
This method is particularly suitable for liquid phase oxidation of cyclohexane by using an oxygen enriched gas or pure oxygen, which not only enhances conversion rate and selectivity of the cyclohexane oxidation process but also improves process safety in the use of an oxygen enriched gas or pure oxygen for cyclohexane oxidation.

Time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculations of the photoabsorption of molecules in the vacuum region have been performed in order to aid in the design of transparent materials for use as photoresists for F2 lithography (157 nm).
We have used the TD-DFT approach to predict the photoabsorption of substituted benzenes, and cycloalkane including norbornane.
The calculations show that norbornane is the best cycloalkane on which to start substitution studies.
