Topic: Cyclopean

Cyclopean architecture - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cyclopean architecture was a characteristic building style of Mycenaean Greek civilization.
Cyclopean ruins are found at Greek, Etruscan, south Indian, Talayotic, and Anatolian sites.
The name comes from the mythical giants Cyclops, to whom the building of such enormous walls was attributed.

Journal of Vision - New data support previous findings: cyclopean eye is relevant for predicting visual direction, by ...   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-11)
Visual direction in the context of cyclopean vision continues to be a topic of debate.
Erkelens and van Ee (2002) have claimed that the concept of a cyclopean eye is irrelevant, especially for predicting visual direction of monocular stimuli during a purely visual task.
We challenge their claim and provide support for the relevance of the cyclopean eye concept and its usefulness in predicting absolute visual direction of monocular stimuli.

Integrating Flying and Fish Tank Metaphors with Cyclopean Scale
The central insight developed in the paper is that a geometric transformation that they call the "cyclopean scale" enables the simple combination of flying and fish tank VR interaction metaphors.
Cyclopean scale continuously scales the working environment to lie just behind the screen in terms of stereoscopic depth.
Cyclopean scale allows for fish tank VR viewing and also places objects at a convenient distance for manipulation, optimizes stereo display parameters and reduces stereo display problems (vergence focus conflict).

Journal of Vision - Cyclopean Motion Processing Does Not Depend Exclusively Upon Selective Attention, by Becker, ...   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-11)
Cyclopean motion aftereffects were induced under conditions of low, high, and no attentional load.
Specifically, observers adapted to a moving cyclopean or luminance grating (spatial frequency = 0.5 c/deg; temporal frequency = 2 Hz) while performing a rapid serial visual presentation (RSVP) task that was superimposed over the central portion of the motion display.
Results showed that the duration of the motion aftereffect declined with increasing attentional load, but there was no reliable difference in the rate of decline between cyclopean and luminance motion (under high attentional load, the duration of the cyclopean motion aftereffect was 61% of that obtained under no attentional load).

 AllRefer.com - Cyclopean (Archaeology, General) - Encyclopedia
The term is derived from Cyclopes, the mythological beings who were supposed to have built walls in this manner.
The Cyclopean technique involves the use of huge, irregular boulders, carefully fitted together without the use of mortar, thereby creating a massive wall with an uneven face.
There are many Cyclopean walls in Etruscan and Anatolian architecture.

The average location in the cyclopean eye of the two disparate retinal sites is biased toward the monocular direction of the higher-contrast image.
This merger is made possible by a sensory linkage between the two eyes that is facilitated by the anatomical superposition of homologous regions of the two retinae in the visual cortex.
Attraction and repulsion also occurs with cyclopean targets (Stevenson et al 1991), showing that they are not based simply on positional effects at the monocular level.

The cyclopean view is a view constructed by the coherence-network; it was never taken by any camera.
