Gall wasp - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gall wasps (Cynipidae), also called Gallflies, are a family of the order Hymenoptera and are classified with the Apocrita suborder of wasps in the superfamily Cynipoidea.
About 1300 species of this generally very small creature (1-8 millimeters) are known worldwide, with about 360 species of 36 different genera in Europe and some 800 species in North America.

Host race formation in a species of gall wasp (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae: Antistrophus rufus) feeding on native prairie forbs (Asteraceae: Silphium)
Monday, December 10, 2001 - 1:24 PM Host race formation in a species of gall wasp (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae: Antistrophus rufus) feeding on native prairie forbs (Asteraceae: Silphium)
Using both data from allozyme and hydrocarbon analyses, we show that populations of these gall wasps in the two species of plants are distinct with fixed differences between the populations, providing evidence that there is little if any gene flow between the populations.

Cryptic species of gall wasps (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae: Antistrophus rufus) specialized on prairie perennials (Asteraceae: Silphium)
We have found that a species of gall wasp, Antistrophus rufus Gillette (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae), whose larvae feed within the stems of native prairie plants in the genus Silphium (Asteraceae), has formed host races between at least three, and maybe four, of the plant species of the genus, S.
Using data from behavioral bioassays and allozyme analyses, we show that populations of these gall wasps in these species of plants are distinct with fixed differences between the populations, providing evidence that there is little if any gene flow between the populations.

Cora Huidekoper Clarke Papers, Series II. Photographs
The photographs, taken by Clarke around 1914, represent the plant galls made by insects that Clarke reared and collected in and around the Boston area.
Especially common are photographs of plant galls made by Cynipidae and Cecidomyiidae, families of gall wasps and gall midges, respectively.
The photographs are separated into volume one and two, corresponding to the original organization of the albums from which they came.
