Cynthia McKinney - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cynthia McKinney's political career began in 1986 when her father, state representative Billy McKinney, submitted her name as a write-in candidate for a state house district.
McKinney angrily responded to the ruling by asserting that it was a racially discriminatory ruling given the fact that the Supreme Court had previously ruled that Texas' 6th district, which is 91 percent white, was constitutional.
McKinney protested the result in court, claiming that Republicans in the mostly-Democratic district had participated in the Democratic primary to vote against McKinney in revenge for her anti-Bush administration views and implied voter fraud.

ATLANTA —; The father of Rep. Cynthia McKinney is blaming Jews for her defeat in Georgia's Democratic primary, but observers said that Tuesday's outcome had less to do with dueling donations from pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian activists than with high Republican turnout in the open primary and tepid support from fl voters and congressmen.

Most of the commentary paired the defeats of McKinney in the state's fourth district and GOP Rep. Bob Barr in the seventh district: Two extremists given to explosive rhetoric were defeated by voters more interested in calm, constructive citizenship.
Incidentally, Billy McKinney, a legislator for years with a large fl majority district, got less than 50 percent of the vote and was forced into a runoff–a rare thing for a longtime incumbent.
Now more are closer to the center, and the defeat of Cynthia McKinney sends a cue to other fl politicians, current and would-be, that the road to political success is not her road.

In "The Screwing of Cynthia McKinney," (to read the original article click here: http://www.gregpalast.com/detail.cfm?artid=229androw=1) I thought I'd perform a minor but laudatory public service: correcting a cruelly false statement by the New York Times, a fib repeating or repeated by other sources from National Petroleum Radio to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
The reason I find the brouhaha over my correcting the record on McKinney so astonishing is that the complaints came in the main, NOT from defenders of the Times or NPR, but from those who do, in fact, believe that Bush DID know of, or even plan, the attack of September 11.
There, the McKinney expose was imbedded among other tales of fibs, fabrications, Stalinized photos and various distortions from America's own Izvestias and Pravdas, the Times, the Washington Post, NPR and the others.
