Cyril Davies - Biography - AOL Music
The Cyril Davies R&B All-Stars were, after the Rolling Stones, the best British blues band of the early '60s -- and if they'd gotten to stay together a little longer under Davies, they might even have given Mick Jagger, Brian Jones, and company a real run for their money.
But Davies collapsed late in 1963, and was diagnosed as suffering from acute leukemia; he died in January of 1964.
Davies' vocals, though hardly overly impressive, had a character to them that made the group's records competitive during the early blues boom of 1962-1963, and his harp playing was second to no one in England, a powerful, alternately mournful or exultant sound.

 Cyril Davies...British Blues Architect
Cyril was a laconic (or loquacious when drinking, which was heavily and often) burly, working-class panel-beater who made a living taking the dents out of wrecked automobiles; he had a devotion close to total identification with Leadbelly.
Cyril was the first man to emulate the sound of the Chicago Blues Band in England, and with his harmonica electrified in the style of Little Walter, he set a standard which helped many groups such as the Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds and John Mayall's Bluesbreakers.
This web site is building a history of the life and times of Cyril Davies with the memories of people who played with him (Musicians' recollections), and others who remember seeing and hearing Cyril as they were growing up through these years.
