 [No title]
Biomass is used inefficiently due to simple and outdated technologies – domestic fires and stoves with an efficiency rating estimated not to exceed 50 percent.
Some biomass materials are unused, as they are not available in a form that can be used with existing technologies.
As biomass begins to be used more efficiently in communal applications, experience should allow for large scale implementation, in the range of 5 MWth and greater.

The Czech Republic possesses sizeable coal resources, with a proved amount in place of nearly 10 billion tonnes, of which about 58% is reported to be economically recoverable.
Bituminous coal deposits are mainly in the Ostrava-Karviná basin in the east of the country, and lie within the Czech section of the Upper Silesian coalfield.
Since 1990, Czech output of bituminous coal has fallen by about 35%, to 14.4 million tonnes in 1999, whilst sub-bituminous/lignite has nearly halved, declining from 79 million tonnes in 1990 to less than 45 million tonnes in 1999.

CSP Interim Report - Czech Republic
In the Czech Republic, the expected increases in temperature and changes in the totals and distribution of precipitation would have a significant effect on the composition of forest ecosystems, on the expansion of the tree-covered area, and on the increase in the number of trees.
It is anticipated that with an overall temperature increase of 1‹ 2°C in the Czech Republic, the composition of forest growth would be closer to the composition in more southern areas, where the current climate is similar to that expected in the Czech Republic.
Results of the Czech Country Study to date include the inventory of greenhouse gas emissions in the Czech Republic, an evaluation of measures to reduce these emissions, and an analysis of the vulnerability of managed water bodies, managed forests, and agriculture to climate change (see Table 4).

Czech Republic Passes Feed-in Tariff Law
The renewable energy associations strongly recommend to amend the law so that the grid operator is obliged to reinforce the grid and that the connection has to be made to the closest grid in geographical terms.
The renewable energy associations also point out that under the current circumstances, unfortunately it will still be very difficult for new independent and local power producers to invest in renewable energy projects in the Czech Republic.
The associations hope that the Czech government as well as the parliament will do the necessary amendments to let small and medium sized enterprises as well as the local population and the whole country benefit from this important new and clean technology.

The module reprocesses 1 tonne of biomass a day, producing 40 m3 of bio-gas, enough for 80 kWh of electricity and up to 800 MJ of heat, as well as 1 tonne of fertilizers.
The use of biomass energy, for example, illustrates this: using left-over wood from industry, it reduces the volume of waste; it creates job opportunites locally; and the heat and hot water it produces is cheaper than that from gas or brown coal, so the money thus saved can be used for other municipal improvements.
