One of the most honoured players in the history of football in Czechoslovakia, Planicka won the league nine times with Slavia Prague, won the domestic cup six times and was a winner of the Mitropa Cup in 1938.
Between 1925 and 1938, Planicka played 74 times in goal for Czechoslovakia and was considered one of the finest European goalkeepers of his era.
At the time of his death, at the age of 92, Planicka was the last living member of the Czechoslovak team that finished as runners-up in the 1934 World Cup.
