Dimer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Its more common usage refers to dimers as certain types of sugar: sucrose, for example, is a dimer of a glucose molecule and a fructose molecule.
In this case, a dimer is a protein complex made up of two subunits that are not necessarily covalently linked.
An example of this dimerizing activity involves the RAS-independent receptor tyrosine kinase that activates Phospholipase C-gamma.

The Piecewise Diffusion of the Silicon Dimer
However, the distribution of dimers occupying the two types of sites upon formation is kinetically determined: one third form on rows and two thirds form in troughs [6].
The dimer dissociates as one atom moves ahead, and the two atoms move up and down the trough independently until they meet again and reform the dimer in a new location.
The Si(001) surface consists of parallel rows of dimer bonds which are the result of pairs of surface atoms binding together in order to reduce the overall surface energy.

 C-Dimer / Stealth Dimer
For growth regimes where there are large numbers of dimers present, we expect that the quality of the epitaxial growth process depends on the area accessible to diffusing dimers prior to being incorporated into the crystal.
The interactions of dimers with various metastable and epitaxial structures, dimer-dimer interactions, and the lifetime of dimers on the Si(001) surface are currently being studied in our lab to help clarify the role of dimers in epitaxial growth.
While it is reasonable to assume that the dimer would pass through the metastable B-state before passing off of the row (thereby minimizing its profile in the direction of its diffusion), the energy values shown in Fig.1 are relatively independent of this assumption.

Dynamics of a dimer on an oscillated plate
The dimer, composed of two spheres rigidly connected by a light rod, exhibits several modes depending on initial and driving conditions.
Abstract: We investigate the dynamics of a dimer bouncing on a vertically oscillated plate.
The first excited mode has a novel horizontal drift in which one end of the dimer stays on the plate during most of the cycle, while the other end bounces in phase with the plate.

Positioning of the DNase I binding loop (arrowhead) of one subunit of one dimer near the C termini of both subunits of a second dimer creates a pointed-end-to-barbed-end contact between it and either subunit of the second dimer.
As previously observed in samples viewed by electron microscopy (7), one subunit of the antiparallel dimer is not incorporated into the filament.

 Pathway to Diamond-Based Molecular Manufacturing
The carbon dimer is bonded to two group 4 supporting atoms, shown in yellow: silicon, germanium, tin, or lead – a series which forms progressively weaker bonds to the dimer.
dimer bond to a new covalent bond between dimer and deposition surface appears to be energetically favored by 1.6 eV for the first bond and by 1.3 eV for the second bond.
A scatterplot of dimer motions [slide omitted] shows that thermal uncertainty increases as we move from the relatively stiff dimer-holding bonds of Silicon, at bottom left, to the less stiff dimerholding bonds of Germanium, at top, and then Tin, at bottom right.

 Dimer Migration
The crucial result is that the dimer energy is now lowered by the presence of the other O atom.
This involves a diffusive jump where one O atom of the dimer moves to its Y-lid configuration and the other O atom is free to remain at its BC site.
This configuration was found by imposing a pair of constraints so that the two arms of the Y-lid are equal and the Si atom at the base of the Y-lid is equidistant from the arms (see Figure 6.9).

 Dimer Placement Tool
The CC dimer is bound to these tools by progressively weaker bonds, moving from Si to Pb, facilitating release of the CC dimer from the tool and its attachment to a growing molecular structure.
The DCB6-X family of dimer placement tools, for X = Si, Ge, Sn and Pb, should be stable in vacuum when used at room temperature, and possibly at significantly higher temperatures.
Here, we investigate this proposed new class of horizontal dimer placement tools by focusing on the six particular tool tip structures shown in Figure 4, evaluating both their stability and the strength of their bonding to the CC dimer.

 AAAAA: Structures: VL/VH Dimer Interface
At the same time, there is considerable overlap between the antigen interface and the dimer interface, particularely for hapten-binding antibodies, where the antigen frequently inserts into a deep binding pocket in the center of the barrel formed by the inner beta sheets of the two domains.
Given the combinatorial nature of antibody generation, the dimer interface residues have to be such that any VL domain can pair with any VH domain to form a functional interface.
This can be clearly seen in a comparison of antigen interactions and VL/VH dimer interactions in anti-Hapten, anti-Oligomer and anti-Protein antibodies or from a comparison of the dimer and antigen contact histograms (see below)
