Encyclopedia: Déjà vu   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
The experience of déjà vu seems to be very common; in formal studies 70% or more of the population report having experienced it at least once [1] (http://www.pni.org/books/deja_vu_info.html).
This correlation has led some researchers to speculate that the experience of déjà vu is possibly a neurological anomaly related to improper electrical discharge in the brain.
Déjà vu is popularly associated with precognition, clairvoyance or extra-sensory perceptions, and it is frequently cited as evidence for "psychic" abilities in the general population.

 VU by Velvet Underground CD
VU features tracks recorded mostly between THE VELVET UNDERGROUND and LOADED which were never released until they were rediscovered in the 80's.
One of two volumes of previously unreleased Velvets tunes, VU consists of songs that were discovered in the early-'80s when preparations were being made for reissue of the band's first three records.
All the tunes on VU provide an illuminating glimpse into the band's musical closet, in which all manner of goodies--aesthetically comparable to their better-known cousins--apparently lurked.

This album, along with their debut, is commonly referred to as the voice of a generation.
Moreover, this album showcases Stills and Nash at the peak of their talent as songwriters, with songs such as "4 + 20," "Carry On" and "Teach Your Children." As good as this album was, however, it always suffered from a lack of clarity in the voices and the instruments.
Overall, the album is a more mature and introspective album than Dirty Couch, and is definitely one of the best albums I have ever heard.

Cuong Vu : Bound - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
The clarity of Vu's sound is astonishing, and this band may be bound by an avant- jazz pigeonhole, but not ever gagged by it.
The title track, co-written by Vu and Holly Palmer, has a three-way personality, starting in lovely, soaring space musings, going to a pounding rock beat from Black, a sweet pop-type vocal from the surprisingly attractive Vu, and an acidic tail.
Vu's concept is unique and distinctive, but this is only the beginning for him.

The album has a "rainy day" feel to me. It begins with the phenomenal title track, "Deja Vu (All Over Again)".
An acoustic song, much like the better song on the album, would have served as a better close to the album than "In the Garden".
Songs like "Deja Vu (All Over Again)," "Nobody Here's Anymore" and "I Will Walk With You" are all simple, tasteful, and honest songs that bring out the best in John Fogerty, and just so happen to be the best on the album.

Those achievements are all the more astonishing given the fact that the group barely held together through the estimated 800 hours it took to record Déjà Vu and scarcely functioned as a group for most of that time.
Déjà Vu worked as an album, a product of four potent musical talents who were all ascending to the top of their game coupled with some very skilled production, engineering, and editing.
All of this variety made Déjà Vu a rich musical banquet for the most serious and personal listeners, while mass audiences reveled in the glorious harmonies and the thundering electric guitars, which were presented in even more dramatic and expansive fashion on the tour that followed.

Of course, their masterpiece on this album is the epic tribute to "Woodstock", a cover of Joni Mitchell's song that they rushed to include on the album after hearing her sing it to them on the phone right after the Woodstock festival, which she couldn't get to because of the traffic.
This is easily one of the ten best albums from the sixties, and one everyone who calls himself (or herself) a rock fan must own and have on the shelf.

To these ears, the only shortcoming of these recodings is the inclusion of cover versions, which would suit late night easy listening radio airplay, but could also be misconstrewn by the cynic as being calculated around the mood of the radio playlists.

While not strictly a Neil Young album, Deja Vu along with the live album 4 Way Street and Sea Of Madness on the Woodstock album and the single Ohio and the ubiquitous b-side Sugar Mountain are the ways many people (including me) were first introduced to Neil's music.
Deja Vu is a very good album which I played many many times in my formative years thus it's pretty well imprinted in my brain.
It was interesting to me and a great indicator of what was to follow, that as much as I loved Deja Vu, the next Neil Young album was for me a much more satisfying record.

I'll admit that like many VU virgins, I was initially attracted to Loaded because it is more user-friendly, more accessible to your average, everyday music listener.
I was always interested in the VU as a unit, but when Julian Casablancas (my fiancee, for those of you who didn't know:) started garnering a lot of comparisons to Lou Reed, I was curious, especially when critics started mentioning Reed's later solo work.
VU might be my favorite Velvets album, though I may be alone in that opinion.

When Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young released Deja Vu in 1970, it became an instant classic -- something the quartet has been striving to live up to ever since.
